2005 5.9 Transmission Question.

We have owned our truck since new and now have just over 190,000 miles on the transmission and power train with no issues. Recently we have noticed when the truck sits after a couple days, when shifting into reverse or drive there is a delayed engagement of movement. Is it time to rebuild? Replace the torque converter? Also, would service of the wheel bearing and u-joints be advisable? If trans rebuild, recommended components other than Dodge. Been a great truck and still looks new. We live near Charlotte,N.C.
Thanks,

Thanks,
Does it do this one time only at first startup or does it do it if you shut it off and restart after a short time?

Sounds like the check valve not holding fluid up in the TC, a quick way to check is to try this on your first startup, immediately put it in neutral, wait about 5-10 seconds then see fi drive or reverse engage immediately.

If so, nothing to worry about, they will all to it after a while, not worth getting fixed IMHO.

Only does this after sitting a couple days or longer. Day after day driving it does fine.

Has it been serviced, oil changed and bands adjusted. check oil level as sometimes if its a bit low it can cause that.

Serviced about 2 years ago, use Amsoil only. Not sure if the bands were adjusted or not. Fluid level hot, is normal.

Don't worry about it, it will be fine. The check valve in the cooler line has failed, and what happens is the Torque Converter will drain back into the system. When you start it the first time, it takes a bit to get the fluid back up. Most of us just pop it in neutral for a couple of seconds and then to whatever gear you need.

You could have it fixed as well.
