2005 4x4 front axle engagement

My buddy just got a 2005 1T, 4x4. While looking it over, I was unable to find a front axle CAD housing like I have on my 2001. Can someone fill me in on how this model year engages its front axle? Thanks.

Thankfully, no more cad.

I believe 2002 was the last year of the CAD.

2003 started the new engagement feature......

there is no CAD from 2003 and up......all you gotta do it shift the transfer case in gear, and there it goes. drive shaft spins at all times.

You must mean the front axle is engaged at all times, right? I would think the front drive shaft would only turn when the transfer case is shifted into 4WD.

Front D-shaft and front-end turns all the time. Terrible set-up.

Dyna-Trak, Solid and another company make no-spin hubs for them with two real wheel bearings or you can do like a friend of mine did and swap in D-60's front and rear.

Thanks oops. This does sound like a terrible set up. I'm not a huge fan of the CAD, it has its flaws, but at least it allow disengagement. I've also installed a 4x4 Posilok on mine to allow positive engagement, as well as 2WD Low.

I'm seriously looking at the free spin hub setup for mine. I'd like to minimize the wear on front end components...
