2005 3500 drw needs new frame
To make a long story short truck was stolen from my drive way and involved in hit and run. front of frame was damaged and cant be straightened. I need a new frame and was wondering if anyone knew my options. Truck is a 2005 3500 STANDARD cab 4x4. Which frames can i use, (2500 ? or which years?) cab and bed are not damaged. Is quad cab short bed same frame length? Finally is 4x4 frame different from 4x2? No comprehensive insurance was on truck so have to pay out of pocket. Lastly does anyone know where to look for used frame? Thanks for the help guys and at least now I can do all the mods I want while repairing! LOL

Body shops usually get front clips from junk yards. As to which models interchange I can't help there. Good luck with your quest. BTW, if the truck was stolen from your home maybe homeowners insurance will kick in too. It's worth checking out anyway.

Homeowners will not cover it, already been there with that (But still check with your insurance company, you never know). Something about vehicles can be independently insured and therefore cannot be part of a homeowner's insurance claim. Seems maybe you could get a truck involved in a rollover cheap and get a good frame from that. Could have sworn I saw one on e-bay the other day...

Thanks! Tried the homeowners route... no luck there. have already contacted junk yard and they are looking. I thought 4x4 and 4x2 frames were different. Not my year so far......... definetely will check on e-bay

When I was driving a truck, I made NUMEROUS pickups at Centerline, MI, (Main Chrysler Parts Depot) and saw DOZENS of new frames stacked outside of every conceivable kind and variation waiting to be ordered. I suggest you order a new frame for it!

I would get a second opinion. I find it hard to believe the truck would be worth salvaginng if the frame is beond repair. What part of the country do you live, maybe someone here can suggest a place, I know if your in my area a place that is very good and cash talks. Also try a place that repairs big trucks instead of car repair they have more experience with heavy duty frames.

Thanks for all the info so far, hopefully i can get this truck back on the road soon. Basically the cab and bed are perfect, not even a scratch, they just hit a small car low and bent frame, even axles are fine. John

use care in getting a used frame. Dodge uses hydroforming, a process that makes the steel too strong to repair without weakening it. This applies to much of the front upper structure as well, so be sure to get reliable advice on what you can and cant fix.
