2004 Dodge 3500

I have a 2004 3500 4x4 srw and I am wanting to convert it to a dually. I know on my older dodge the dually axle was 2 inches wider on each side. Are the newer dodges the same way? I do alot of hay hauling in the summers and I am also wondering if the axles are different would a set of 2" spacers be strong enough instead of switching axles.

While adding the dually wheels would help making it stable and physically carry more, you still couldn't legally haul any more weight than what is stamped on the door.
I don't know about your scale guy's but the ones around here look at the gross axel weight rating stamped on the vehicle to determine what you can carry.

If you went with a dually axel the vehicle would have to be re-certified to run the higher axel weight rating. From what I understand, it would be far less expensive to trade the truck in on one that is a dualy already.
