2004 cummins surging

I'm new to this forum as of today. My truck has got me stumped. Looking for some gurus. I've been hearing of guys on here about their trucks surging but mine is different. It has surged around 30mph which is just taking off from a stop light. It has surged at 65-70 at constant speed almost feels like when I'm slightly letting off the throttle it's just a quick surge. Been noticing it surge more and harder when its pretty windy out. It doesn't do it every day. I have a ts performance on it and turned it off today and it hasn't done it yet. Alot of the forums say apps but i have no dead pedal at all. The last time it surged real hard my fca went out about 3 years ago. Also I have no codes either. Truck idles fine full throttle is fine.

Most surging as you describe is caused by incompatible aftermarket tunes that use pressure to gain power. They cause the cp3 to go crazy at certain times and is not predictable. The hint here is you state you took off the ts performance and it works ok.

Keep it turned off and see what happens.

a sticking meter valve in the FCA can cause this too.

Understandable but does that mean the cp3 is getting weak? I've had the chip on for a little over 4 years now with no problems. 182000 miles

As said, leave the tuner off and see what happens.
If it continues surging , try removing the FCA and shaking it.
It should "rattle" freely, kinda like the d EGR valves on a gasser did.
If it's not, then replace the FCA.

As of two days ago I have been running the chip off before I start the truck and then turning back on when on the highway and no problems. I've heard the batteries being corroded could cause it so I clean those and unplugged the chip for about 10 seconds and plugged back in. My air filter is far beyond gone. I have a new one on its way and gonna throw some diesel kleen in it also. I will note that before I did those things two days ago I would floor it with the chip all the way up in overdrive and it shutter real bad but hasn't since. Gotta love mysteries.

That "shutter" (shudder) is quite likely a torque converter going bad. I would not repeat that behavior until you fix the tranny.
