2003 4x4 fuel milage
Just out of curiosity, what kind of fuel mileage can you expect to get out of a 2003 3500 4x4 QC LWB dually with a 6Sp 5.9 H.O. 4:10 rear end while not towing? Mine gets between 17 and 20 mpg with about 50/50 highway and city driving.
Any replies will be greatly appreciated!

You're doing good, in the hills of western PA, I'm getting between 15-17 running around town and 18-20 on the highway unloaded. Loaded with a 4Klbs trailer, it goes down to about 15 on the highway. You don't feel the load while driving, you see when you fill up.

T-7, that is about the same mileage I'm getting. I'm bone stock except for the guages and Line-x bed liner, and this is by far the best truck I have ever owned. I love my truck. ;D ;D

I get 14-16 empty on the highway/town. Towing 6500#s at 75 I get 10. This really sucks. My 12 valve with 350,000km gets better loaded then my 03 gets empty.

jt

i still think this is the best truck i've ever owned. it will do anything that i ask of it and it is great knowing that i can tow almost anything that we put behind it!

Well, I got a '03, SRW, 3.73 and get at least 19-21 around the area. Which would be 60% highway and 40% short driving.

But, towing is another thing, get 8.5 to 12.5 and that is 20,000 total weight.

I find if I get up over 1,900 RPM things go to crap empty, and towing, if I can keep it at like 1,600 to 1,800 I get MUCH better mileage!

Hunter

I keep reading on every site I visit how the mileage will get better once the engine breaks in but I'm not seeing a change. About 4k miles of my 20k has been towing loads under 4k lbs. and most of the rest are highway miles at 70 mph or greater. I'd think it was broken in by now!

20k is not enough to break in your truck. My 94 got its best MPG after 80k. If it does not go buy the end of your 7/70k then there might be something wrong.

DM01

My 2003 ho 48re has 3,000 miles on it. The best mileage I got was 19.2 with combination highway and a little town driving. Last week I pulled our TT which weighs about 7,000 # and only averaged 9 mpg pulling from 60-70 but we were bucking some headwind also. My 96 with a tweaked pump would outpull the new one with ease and get a lot better mpg.
