Bulid date = 08/03. I have 1,200 on the ticker. Pulling a couple 4 wheelers up a mountian hi-way (on a two place trailer) this morning, I experienced some pretty strong vibrations (in the seat & body) from about 1600 to 1800 rpm while climbing at about 65mph. Once I increased the speed to 70mph (just over 2000rpm), and the vibrations had vaporized. Is this normal?

I have a very similiar vibration in the same RPM range as you. I can rev the engine while sitting in the driveway and feel the vibration as the motor passes through this RPM range. The motor changes pitch (or something is vibrating) at this point. It almost sounds/feel like it is one of the accessories contributing to this problem, but I can't be sure.

03/2003 - Don't have any vibration that I would consider unusual.

Re:2000 rpm VIBRATIONzzz ?

I just picked up an 11/03 build '04, 3500 dually 4x4 6spd 3.73, and mine vibrates between about 69 and 80 mph. I've owned a 98 and 2000 dodges w/ cummins and didn't vibrate like this, they were similarly equipped too. The rear view mirror shakes so hard everything is blurred, and it's not loose.

It seemed very subtle at first, but I've driven between Austin and Fort Worth twice (400 mile round trip) in the last 3 days and it's bad.

I dropped the front driveshaft today. I'll see if that helps. I'm taking a long trip this week so it should be evident.

Re:2000 rpm VIBRATIONzzz ?

concerning the engine vibration in the new cummins h/o.I looked into the engine bay and noticed how untrue the fan rotation is, I believe the fan clutch is designed wrong. The whole thing seems to wobbling around.this condition maybe the source of the problem.I took mine to the dealer on monday, they said this was the pitch of the fan and other trucks have this irregular rotation, that's crap crap crap. that is just poor quality control an dont want to have any recalls.I call cummins an they said that they do not manufacture the fan clutch and the condition is not normal.I'm not an engineer but if this thing is off center at idle, it will vibrate at speed.Im taking mine to cummins diesel shop :-

Okay, as I read somebody else had done in one of the other vibration posts, on this board I think, I pulled my front driveshaft. No more vibes. Could this just be a poorly balanced front driveshaft?

Re:2000 rpm VIBRATIONzzz ?

Very very little vibration, not noticeable unless I zone in on it. A bit more noticeable with A/C on. Doesn't bother me one bit.

Built March 2003. 2-wheel drive shortbed 6-speed with 3.73 gears.

A year ago when I started test-driving 2003 Rams, I drove 5 or 6 altogether and most of them had more 2000rpm engine vibes than my truck. Two of the trucks also had driveline vibes. I was concerned about this when I ordered my truck and luckily I got a good one. 4x4s are probably affected by this more though and all but 1 I test drove was 4x4.

Buid Date: 2-2003
Got 7800 miles on her,no vibration until this past Friday and Saturday. Went hunting and it got below 32 degrees. When i got back to the truck after dark, it crank up just like it always does. Drove back home 38 miles it had seat, steering and at one point rearview mirrow vibs (the rearview mirrow vib was right when overdrive engaged.-I mean there where vibration's so, that it made me think what-the-heck-is-this-all-about . At one point it had what seemed to be drive line vibs and at another point it seemed like engine or exhaust. Even the engine sounded odd, almost like a gasser missing ???. Then Saturday morning same thing. Then about mid day Saturday it warmed up to about 60 degrees, drove back home and no vibration ran good and sounded good.
No vibration since then. This was 11-28 and 29 (dates)
One other thing seemed to have lost power untill it shifted into overdrive durring this time

Haven't checked fan yet.

Re:2000 rpm VIBRATIONzzz ?

Build 3/03 A/T 4wd 4.10

Droning/vibration through wheel and floorboard at 2000-2400. Strong enough to numb your hands on a long trip.

No vibration at Idle or at 2000 RPM in Park. AC on or off makes no difference.

Not a constant buzz, more of a drone that gets weaker and stronger at 1 second intervals (2000 rpm), and occurs faster until it is constant at 2400-2500 or so.

This is *not* normal cummins engine sounds.

We really need a poll or survey on this to help get attention with DCX.

RHC,

That vibration your feeling sounds more like a fuel/injector issue, especially when you describe the situation...cold.

Try a fuel additive like Stanadyne or switch deisel stations on next fill up.

Re:2000 rpm VIBRATIONzzz ?

Has anyone heard whether there has been a fix worked out yet? ???

My 3500, dually, HO , 4.1 rear, 4x4 has it around 2000 rpms, goes away under and around 2400 rpm. Built in ole Mexico ~2/2003. It's harmonics of some sort.

Happy Holidays.
