2 broken studs, what to do?

Hey guys. I was rotating my tires today, and when removing the lugs, discovered that one of the studs on each of the back wheels was completely sheared off! Now I've put the wheels back on, and 7/8 lugs are nice and tight at 130lbs..but what to do to repair this? I'm hoping it's something basic and not horribly expensive. Anyone have an idea what could have caused it? Think the vehicle is ok to drive in the meantime? Thanks in advance.

I'd say you're going to have to pull the hubs off and knock the old ones out and pop some new ones in. Check all the others really good to make sure they are fine.
That's very strange that just one stud on each wheel was sheared off.....

I agree, it is unusual for only one stud to shear off. With 8 lugs, if there was enough movement to shear one stud, it should have taken more. Is there a possibility someone got over anxious with an impact gun? I would go over the other 7 like Dodgezilla mentioned and make sure there are not hairline cracks in the others. HTH.

I had the tires changed on a work truck a few years ago. A week later I picked up a nail and got a flat. No sweat, I break out the 4 way...and nearly killed myself trying to break it free. Ok, called the wife...bring me the 2 foot breaker bar and socket and just in case...one of the jack stands. So, first...4 way on the nut, other end on the jackstand...me bouncing 200lbs up and down trying to break it loose. Nope. Then, 2 foot breaker bar....nope. Flat bed the truck to the tire shop and ask the manager outside. Sir, here is a 4 way.....take that wheel off, it's been one week since you assured me your air gun won't over tighten. He paid for the flat bed, gave me half off my next set of tires and appologized for hiring 16 year old kids to put the wheels back on.

I hate tire shops....and you can bet I check the lug tightness when I leave them now. What if it had been the wife stranded out in the middle of nowhere? Anyway, I bet someone got jiggy with the air gun, while it was fed with 200 psi.

It's possible that the last shop that installed the mud grapplers did over tighten the lugs..this is the first time I've rotated them, who knows how long they were broken for. I hate taking my vehicles into shops! I take them in as little as possible to avoid this kind of nonsense, and this is what happens when I do..ack!
