1st white smoke, need advice...

Looking for some advice...

My truck just turned 35k miles, and this is the first and only time I've seen it do this. On start-up this weekend, after sitting overnight, it belched out white smoke and idled rougher than anything for about 10 seconds. It was plenty long enough to register that something wasn't right and to glance in my mirror to see the white plume. Then it went away and idled like normal, with a little white smoke still boiling out. It has never done this before, and has not done it since. I assume this was an injector issue, based on all the white smoke threads on the 600's??? Has anyone else had this randomly happen on a 305/555? Should I be concerned enough to let the dealership take a look at it, or chalk it up to random occurance? Thanks for any advice!

I'd take it in just so it's on record while you're still under the no deductible warrranty. That way you're not on the hook for it if it does shoot craps on you later.

Sounds like mine every morning. When I start up, a large plume of white smoke, rough idle and then after about 5-10 seconds, it's smooths out, smoke is gone, and I have less than half your mileage, about 16K right now.

Mine does it too, been in for the flash already and didn't cure it. Fired it up a -15 one morning and couldn't see my house anymore! Old 2 story house, isn't like I lost a dog house in the smoke. I plan on taking it in again the next cold snap we get, and having 'em look at my grinding 3rd gear, and 30 mph rear end howl too.

Tobyw - I would see if it happens again. If it does, determine whether it's smoke or steam. Steam dissipates like your breath, almost gone instantly - smoke hangs like a cigarette smoker's exhale - you can see it for a while... If you have white smoke I'd get the injectors tested.

I also wouldn't try to compare your issue with those of people with 04.5+ trucks. They are known for white smoke and rough running issues/bad injectors, and typically those problems aren't seen in 555's.

Lightman - You have hit the nail on the head as far as my concerns go... I am worried sick that I may be seeing the beginnings of injector issues similar to those so prevelant on the 04.5's However, you make a good point about how quickly is dissipates. I did not take much note about how long the white stuff hung around, but it was about 40 degrees outside when I fired it up and this happened, so I sort of doubt it was steam? I'll keep an eye on that. I've got another thread started on this steam vs. smoke issue...
