This is true with most of today's gasoline engines. However, the Cummins B series engine is a "parent bore" block, rather than a hardened wet sleeve design an does indeeed need breaking in with as my 2002 manual indicates, a convention motor oil before switching to a synthetic.

 

Well, I think calling it an "attack" is a bit of a misunderstanding on your part. Like I said, I like Amsoil and I use Amsoil in some of my stuff so I don't see how one could say that attacking Amsoil makes me feel good.
My point was that if you have 2 people on this forum, one who uses Delvac and one who uses Amsoil. You tell both of them something negative about their oil, you better believe that the Amsoil user will be in your face while the Delvac user likely won't care. Not only will the Amsoil user get bent out of shape, it will draw the attention of other Amsoil users and usually a distributor or two who will gladly join the fight. Perhaps the word "cult" was wrong and I should use the word fraternity.

I don't care what oil you or anyone else uses and I care even less about what anyone thinks about the oil I use. I think the whole thing is petty, and ignorant, I'm just stating my opinion based on what I have seen on this and other forums sorry if it offends you or anyone else.

 

Coolslice I thought it was pretty funny too, and you are right about the Amsoil 'team' getting a little riled up from time to time. Some people are so blindsided by the marketing that they believe every Amsoil product is the best of it's type bar none. I wouldn't go that far, although they do make some good products, a few of which I use.

Boy I love my Delvac 1 though. ITS THE BEST OIL OUT THERE BAR NONE. NO OIL IS CLOSE TO DELVAC 1 !

 

Calm down guys. To whoever thinks that Amsoil users or sellers are the only ones that get defensive when it comes to does not know how to or chooses not to do a search on oils. I have seen long drawn out arguments about synthetic versus dino oils, what to use, don't need to use, etc.
Usually though, someone comes in with the Amsoil is junk or Amsoil is not certified or approved or whatever and says they would never use it. Not very often is that said about Delvac or Rotella or Premium Blue or whatever. Its often (including in this thread) bashed without merit. You see people get defensive about the oil they choose being unfairly spoken of and you will get an argument.
Amsoil is no more expensive as some synthetics and is indeed less expensive than some. I hope it works for me.

What oil do you use. If it is said to be junk without facts you would probably take offense too.

 

IMO the fact that everone has a brother in law that sells Amway causes some wierd claims such as running 200rpm less at sixty miles an hour etc.( check other posts if you doubt this). I am not saying that it is not a good product but it ain't that good.
I got my truck on Nov 19 2002 and a week and a half later we hit -38 degrees below zero so with 1700Kms or 1056 miles on it I dumped the oil and put in Esso 0w-40 full synthetic.
I have now got 76000Kms or 47225 miles on it and that is the only oil I use I have over 25000 miles of towing my fifth wheel including from Edmonton Alberta to Cherokee NC. , down through Georgia to the gulf coast, across Texas etc. some temperatures were in the 102 degrees F range on the overhead computer.
My engine was not broken in at 1056miles but it does not use any oil between changes, It runs well and is good on fuel and I really don't care if it is broken in or not if it keeps running like it is.

At the 15k mile oil/filter change I switched from D - A lubricants SuperTreated IV to Delvac I. Did the same in the 12 valve I have in my Chevy V3500 crew cab (for sale) with good results.

I've actually thought about switching my new engine for my old 12 valver.

 

You are certainly correct, but for the sake of this little arguement no one said it's junk. It seems to me that when you get into the fight about dino vs. synthetic, an Amsoil guy will quickly jump in to inform everyone that Amsoil is the ONLY true synth. oil, thus, you know......
I just happen to use Rotella synth. 5w-40. I know it's not the best, but I know it is plenty good enough and that all I personally care about. Amsoil may very well be the best oil ever when you just compare the actual products. If I could go to Wal-Mart and pick it up for the same price, I would probably use it instead. However, I don't want someone telling me that I will go to automotive hell if I don't use it. Thats just how I feel about it, no offense to anybody.

No offense taken coolslice...just having a little fun! Really though, Amsoil and Mobil 1 often run neck and neck. When Mobil 1 Tri-Synthetic changed to Super-Syn, Amsoil reformulated their oils. It's good for us. So it just depends on the timing, sometimes Amsoil is better, sometimes Mobile 1 is better. I'm only comparing them as they are the only Group IV PAO base stock that I'm certain about. I did just notice that Mobil 1 has a new oil out that is CI-4. It is Mobile 1 Truck & SUV. Meets the new requirments of the Powersmoke, Duranot, and the King (CTD)

As far as Amsiol dealers being overly zealous about thier products, I have not experienced that. I have noticed that they tend to catch a lot of flack now and then. Personally, I feel that since they are trying to make a nickle, they should be passonate about their products, otherwise it would be a tough sell. Don't know about you, but I'm not going to buy something from someone you could care less. Are their products always the best money can by...no. That's why I always shop around.

 

Well i'm NOT a dealer just like the product.I like Dodge trucks with or without Cummin engines also.But I will say that INDEPENDENT test studies did and still show Amsoil higher rated then other syns.Seems Dodge diesel owners are a tightly knit group when it comes to trucks as Amsoil dealers are when it comes to oil! I could care how Amsoil is marketed.I order from my catalog and its delivered to my door.I even use their tractor hyd.oil in my New Holland tractor.BIG differance in performance over the factory fill stuff.
