15000 Mile Checkup
Took my CTD into the dealer today to have the oil and differential fluids changed. I asked about the option of using synthetics and she told me Dodge normally uses synthetic motor oil and differential fluid. Is this normal practice for all dealers?

She being the cashier or the mechanic? Maybe on the gassers they use synthetic motor oil. I don't want synthetic in mine until 20k? I don't know about the axles.

I'm not sure all dealers would use full syn engine oil, but if yours wants to, and you want to pay their premium - go for it. I wouldn't concerned that your engine has 15k on it; I put syn in mine when it had 18k.
I'd ask what type of syn engine oil they're going to use? A full synthetic (group IV) or semi-syn (Group III). They're not the same - in quality, or price; but to the uninformed they may sound like the same thing.
Its nice to know that they want to put syn diff oil in it too - it shows that they may be aware that DC puts syn differential oil in it at the factory.

The factory fill on the rear dif is synthetic (not sure about the front), it is required to make the axle live at rated CGVW with the diesel engine. The factory fill on the NV5600 is also synthetic. I changed my engine over to synthetic at 6K miles but I worked mine pretty hard the first 6 K and it used almost no oil so I decided that it had worn in enough for me. I am at 15 K now and still see no sign of oil loss with 9K on this change. Both my front and rear axles had plenty of metal particals in the oil at the 15K service. I was happy that I did not put it off, and had I known better would have done it at 10K.
