Sorry guys, but there is no law that says the dealership is the only place to do scheduled maintenance or your warranty is void. As a matter of fact, it says in the warranty booklet you can do it anywhere.
I worked for dealerships for years, and that's bull-puckey!

I don't think anyone said that, just that it needs to be done to keep the warranty.

Oh, I didn't pay anything near that $325 for mine at the Dealer.
And I got mine changed twice, first time they both leaked, so I took it back and they did it again, n/c.

I still think 15K is overkill. Realistically, think about how many "regular Joes" own these trucks, and will probably NEVER change the diff fluid.

Please. I'll change every 30K, and take my chances with the axle warranty. The Sterling 10.5 on my Ford was "sealed for life" - required changed only if contaminated.

That being said, if the dealer will give me some kind of special 15K "deal", I'll have it done. Not going to hold my breath.

I won't be to that point for a while yet. Not even to my first oil change yet.

I drove my '96 gasser 100K and changed the fluid when I put in the new tranny. (BTW, the tranny fluid went 100K also. ) Driven it about 80K since with no problems.

15K does seem to be excessive. How much for a new rear end gear set? What's that divided by $325?

If you put $325 into each fluid change, by the time you've done 100K miles you've spent about $2200.00 on fluid changes. There's something wrong with that picture. The rebuilt tranny and the fluid change in the gasser only cost $1K and change.

Back from working cattle this month. Still can't let $325 go under the fence so easy. This one really sticks in my craw.

Anyone have the axle supplier's contact numbers? I'd really like to get a better understanding of their "durability service practices" compared to the other Super Duty truck manufacturers.

Does this mean their axles are less durable?
I'll bet they don't think so!

I agree with Hoss, my 03 owners manual states that the DSA (limited slip) does NOT require any additives. Unless they changed something from the 03's..You got hosed. You need to look in your manual, then go back to the ******* and get your money back.

Got my invoice.

Looks like no charge for additives but charged me $209 for #5102232AA lubricants, $13 for #4318060AB lubricant, $60 for 2 LS 1491(?), and labor $75 then discount to $325.

This every 15k!?

Looks to me like they surviced your front/rear diffs, your trans, your engine, refilled your brake fluid and windshield wiper fluid? I would definately go back to the Dealer and ask questions. There is NO WAY that diff fluid costs that much unless your buying by the 5 gal buckets? Get some answers.

Big city prices I guess. I'll revisit the invoice with them. In the meantime I'm going to contact the axle guys.

Did mine for the first time at 53k. Service manager at my dealership told me 15k service was crazy. I agreed. Will my warranty be null and void? (who knows) I have the 10.5'' rear end. Bought 3 qts castrol syntec 75-90 @ $7.59 each. Had some left over. Dont fill to top of drain hole. Look in manual for correct level. Would be smart to wire brush rearend then blow off with compressed air to keep dirt out when pulling pan. With tax cost $24.66 and about a half hour of my labor.

Time to try another shop...whew!
Being self employed I fully understand the factor of pricing based on cost to do business so I won't go there but that doesn't mean you have to use them.

In our shop its:
$38.00 labor
$ 36.00 synthetic Mobil 1
$ 2.61 tax
__________
$76.61 Total heck we have to sleep at night!

I too thought the 15k was kinda soon and when I did mine at 15K it all looked good but the other day I did one at 25K and it was nasty, looked like it had been in there for 100K.

IMO I think if you don't tow 30K would be ok but 15K if you tow.

I did front and rear at a bit over 15k using Mobil 1 75W-90, which is kind of pricey at about $8 somehing a quart. I'll continue the 15k interval for warranty reasons, also because it's not that hard to do, and because the oil was pretty black when I changed it.

Are American Axles made in mexico or USA?
Or should I have to ask these days. There is a USA, Japan, I heard, and things made just said USA.

I heard from a 4x4 gear company that they may be better than DANA's as the clutches used to come apart in the DANA's and Americans have spiral friction gears which do not need the friction additive.

It would take a whole lot more than 10% off dealer retail for me to be interested in the Mopar logo on the bottle. 10% off would reduce the price to somewhere around two to three times the price at the local parts store. I use Mobil One full synthetic GL-5 75W-90 that meets all of the specs that D-C requires. For all I know, the Mopar stuff could easily be the same stuff in my Mobil One bottle, I know for sure that D-C isn't refining oil, they have to be buying it from somebody.

I can't wait until my local retailers sell something that meets the specs of ATF+4.

I priced the 75W-90 at the dealership, almost $23/quart. I put in Mobil 1 synth for $7.
