15,000 Service Questions
I'm going to have to do my 15,000 mile service this weekend and I don't have my manual handy. Can anyone tell me what Schedule B shows for 15,000 mile maintenance items?
I know the following:
-Oil change (Delvac 1300 w/Fleetguard filter)
-Rotate tires
-Fuel filter change (Fleetguard)
-Change rear diff fluid (what fluid do I need here??
What am I missing? Also, is there a gasket available for the rear diff or do I have to use the gasket maker gunk?
What is the spec for the rear diff fluid? I'll be using Mobil 1 synthetic for this because it's good stuff and readily available, but I don't remember the required weight.
Also, I'll probably go ahead and change my air filter even though it's not time yet....just because I work in some pretty dusty conditions. I'm sure it needs changing.
Thanks.

Rear diff I'm going to use Mobil 1 75w90 gear oil =] I believe there is a reuseable gasket but could be wrong, I'll let someone answer that who's removed it
I thought you just changed your fuel filter out not too long ago?

Inspect engine air cleaner, replace if necessary.
Changing rear diff is easy. Gasket is reusable. I used an impact wrench to spin the bolts loose on the cover enough to brake the seal and drop the old lube into a pan. Amsoil 75W-90; I put in a little under 4 qts.
I did the transmission while I was under the truck. Nothing special there other than having a 17mm hex to fill it. Just pull one of the bottom PTO cover bolts out.

You're just talking about the air filter, right??
I wondered how many quarts it took. Thanks.
I don't recall the transmission fluid needing changing at 15K. Did you do it just because or does it call for it to be done?

Hoss, yes, I was talking about the air filter. Verbatim from the DRM.
The tranny is a "lifetime" fill according to everything I've read. In other words they say you never have to change it. Yeah.
Anyways, mine was becoming a little sticky when shifting into 3rd gear. I figured that since I invested much of the morning to doing lube changes, the little additional time to do the tranny was well worth it. I'm glad I did, it shifts much smoother now. Using the same logic, I did the Xfer case too.
I'm also totally confident now that all the fluid levels are where they need to be.

Re:15,000 Service Questions
Boss, after discussing it with the technical help line at Amsoil, I put in Amsoil 5W-30 (ASL).
My intentions were to use Redline MTL; but my local supplier was sucking air as far as inventory goes.
I had been thinking of using Amsoil in the engine and diffs, so that motivated me to ask what they had for the tranny. I ended up buying everything from them in one bulk shipment: engine oil, tranny, diffs, xfer case. Dropped off at the house.

Yeah there sure aren't too many fluid choices for the Transfer case. The manual calls for Mopar ATF +4. Most fluids are only +3 compatible. I know that Amsoil's synthetic ATF will work, and Valvoline MAXLIFE Dexron III/MERCON says it is compatible. I still have to find out if Redline has a suitable fluid.

Re:15,000 Service Questions
I just looked into my 2004 manual and there's conflicting information. YOu have to look at Schedule A OR B Maintenance. If you use Shedule B then you change the rear axle fluid and front axle fluid (4x4) at 15k miles. But if you use Schedule (A) it doesn't call for changing the front and rear axle fluids. Go Figure that one! 15k is 15k to me!
For fluid types: Manual Trans. NV 4500 (5 SPD) then use Mopar 75 Synthetic 4874459
Manual Trans. NV 5600 ( 6 Spd) Manual Fluid 4874464
I've never hear of any manufacturer stating to change the rear and front end fluids at 15K unless you've been underwater with the truck and both areas are contaminated with water

This seemed odd to me as well. New synth fluid every 15k? Really?

Schedule A and Schedule B are indeed different. I go by Schedule B though.
It's also funny how they say you never have to change the fluid in the transmission but then they tell you what kind of fluid it needs.
