11.50 Probs require a extendeded warranty? Are they worth it or not?

Understood Tony, but I wouldn't count on the Dodge web site for accurate information about their model pricing or the options available. It's pathetic how many glaring errors one can find when pricing a new truck there. They tend to get the "gasser only" and "diesel only" details all mixed up.

I can't believe that still hasn't been fixed on the Dodge website! It's been that way since at least mid-2004, when I started looking for a new truck. I wanted a 3500 until I realized that they effectively charge you about $500 for a pair of rear helper springs! My '05 2500 auto definitely has the 11.5" axle. As Blast Chamber mentioned, the 10.5" axle is for heavy duty gassers only.

Blast Chmaber, thanks for reminding me....I found several discrepancies, when I ordered my truck.
Makes you wonder where you can get accurate factory specs!?

DC has been using the 11.5 in ALL 2500 + 3500 diesels since the 325/600
CTD became the mainstay. Duallys DO NOT have larger axles, only
two more wheels. I think the 03 and very early 04 with the standard
output (305/555?) engines MAY have had the 10.5, but if so they are the only 3G diesels. The SRT10 and powerwagon use the 10.5 although the wagon
has the larger 11.5 shafts.

BTW, the 305/555 is still the best combination of power and mileage of the 3rd gens.

I have changed the gear oil once already and will continue to do so to avoid any warranty hassles if any present themselves in the future. I had ordered a gasket for the 11.5; however, this style gasket is more than capable of being reused a few times. So, I have one for a few years down the road.
As for the extended warranty... I rarely buy them. I did get one from Dodge for my truck however. I bought the truck with the intension of having it 13 years- my last one was an 87. I don't know how to do repair work on a diesel nor do I have the tools; I can do the regular maintenance though. If I get the three years after the extended has ended, like most of my vehicles, the truck and warranty will have more than payed for themselves. I am expecting the U-joints to start going about the time the extended kicks in. I suppose you could look at it like insurance for catastrophic breakdowns. For what I saved buying the truck at the end of the model year, speaking with countless salesman until I got the deal I wanted and paying for it in full at the time of sale, the money for the warranty wasn't an issue to me.

No problems on my 11.5, but I only have 8600 miles so far. As for warantee, it only takes one niggling annoying intermitant problem to eat up the cost an extended warantee. I have 9 vehicles and don't have time to mess with this one. As mentioned, cheap (compared to any major dealer job these days) insurance, will be nice not to have to touch it for at least 7 years (cept maint).
