Goes to show how stupid the sales guys are. Being my first diesel I wanted to be sure and that way I could tell the wife also when she drives it. He tells be its the red light and doesn't know about any squiggley coil light for start up. He says once the red light is off you can start it up. dummy.

I think the manual says that the light won't come on unless the manifold (not outside air) temp is below 66 deg F.

This thread is proof that nobody reads their owner's manual anymore.

there's more legalese in there than useful data.

it's written by lawyers, not engineers, or God forbid, laymen who know what the consumer needs to know

Somethings definately wrong with your manifold heaters then. Until you get it fixed plug it in. That should help.

There are two lights. One little red one to the right that thould come on every time and the yellow squiggly one on the left that only comes on when its cold enough.

Be glad it doesn't come on....on my 05 the Coil Light ALWAYS comes on for at least 5- 10 seconds even when the engine is warm. Lately the temperatures are in the 30's and i have to wait around 40 seconds in the morning for the light to come off. Real annoying.

hold Odo button, cycle key on (don't crank) and it will do a bulb check of the dash, and you can see the glowworm.

i just use my ABS lite as a WTSL now.
i like to let all the little things come to equilibrium before i turn her over.

and yep, when the 06 lite comes on, it stays on just as long as the 04 did....
left it unplugged one nite

but if it's plugged in - it don't seem to come on at all

Thanks LVTony! Living in Houston, I have never seen this light you guys are talking about.... At first I thought the Security light was the WTSL, but read the manual and found out it was the Security light. BTW, why does the '06 not need to wait? I can't plug mine in, I don't think it has the block/rail heater.

All '06 CTD's have a block heater already installed at the Cummins factory. You just have to buy a block heater cord and install it yourself. I had to. It's pretty easy. I don't know the specifics why the '06 doesn't need to wait. I like to think it's because it's a better running motor than all the rest.
