06 hard start ?

Anyone else haveing long crank over times like 10-12 sec. Not every time just whenever it feels like it. I have two 2006 trucks and the one that i bought in december of 05 has never had a problem but the truck that i bought in may of 06 the 6spd has had crank time issues on and off since week one. Has always started just not real easy and puffs a little black smoke once it does start. Didnt change a thing when i added the aftermarket parts acts just the same. My dealer said they havent heard of any thing like this yet.

Mine's an 05. It does this exact thing. It's extremely annoying . The other day, I almost thought it wasn't going to start at all.

Theres a FLASH out for this.Read that its still a issue and D.C. is working on it.DEALER should READ and LOOK at TSB's ! Think it has to do with dual mass flywheel and were it stops, picks up signal etc. Tell DEALER to do the LATEST and greatest flash up dates. If THEY look up LONG crank times on THEIR D.C. computer as the tech is suppose to hunting the issue it will lead him/them down the yellow brick road. The upside to this is that its been reported many times that after the LONG CRANK TIME FLASH is performed a increase in FUEL MPG has been reported by most.

Every single G56 equipped truck that I know of, has the hard start issue. I had TSB 18-015-05 Revision A, done, but have seen the new TSB, and it is a different number. I have heard that the only real fix is replacing the clutch with an aftermarket one that gets rid of the dual-mass flywheel. I always use a diesel additive and wait till my truck stops dinging before I try to start it, but it still happens. Let us know if you find a fix.

my 06 truck does this also, not all the time just when the truck feels like it.

It bugs me, that is one of the things I love about the Cummins in fires up fast! this this long cranking drives me nuts

I have an appointment this next week to get a seat cable fixed, so I will ask them about this TSB then.

I "HAD" the same problem, as it turned out it was my turbo timer but not exactly the timer itself.
What was happening was the fuel pump was shutting off at key off and litterally running the truck out of fuel so, when come time for start up it had to purge itself then start up rough and smooth out.
So we added a jumper wire to the pump and have not had a problem since.

The existing flash for this on the 06's does not generally completely fix it, but greatly improves it. Better yet, EVERY SINGLE person I've read about getting that flash reported roughly a 2 mpg mileage increase, highway and city. That includes my '06 6 spd.

I dunno, mine was maybe built earlier than that. If I were you, I'd try a different dealer. It could be that your truck does indeed have that software, and it could also be that the dealer doesn't want to be bothered with a fairly low-paying job like that.

The only time mine does it is when it's real warm out or it's only been off for less than 30 minutes or so...

don't waste your time taking it to the dealer, just got mine back for the second time for the same exact thing, and they reflashed the computer, and still the does the same exact thing. Clearly dodge has not figured out a fix, don't waste your time until they figure it out. Getting sick of taking it in, and getting sick of it never starting, pretty embarassing on a brand new truck.
