06 Data Connector Hunt

06 Data Connector Hunt
Ok, I design wiring harnesses for a living and I cant find a **** connector. I have been diggin around my engine compartment trying to find my data link connector with the plug on the end of it. I have looked all around the fuel filter housing where most sites say to look.
1.) Does anyone have pics of one of their installs plugging a chip into the data link connector?
2.) Is it on the back side of the fuel filter housing? The chrysler manual says its "Near T/O for water in fuel sensor" which i cant see. Check out this pic, know where its at?

3.)This is silly, but could they have cut it off? I know you cant cross the J1939 lines and expect the can bus to work.
I need a beer.

it is in the cab under the steering wheel area. look under there. black plug.
2005's and older (I am being told by a friend) has the data link connector under the hood as well. 06's and newer do not.

Hey Purdue,
I looked at mine tonite and mine 3 pin connector is right next to my fuel filter housing.. Don't know if that helps.... I would like to know more about that system you have. I want a system I can log into the system and look and maybe modify some things lol

The 2006 trucks do not have the 3-pin data connector (the one next to the fuel filter housing). DC did away with that connection beginning in 2006. It used to be a connection for some of the power boxes on the earlier models. My guess is that DC did away with the connection in an effort to stop it being available for power additions.
You could probably look at earlier model wiring schematics and see where those 3 wires were terminated/originated, then tap the same on your 2006 and make your own data connection. Finding the connector plug/receptacle might be as easy as PM'ing Quad and asking him if you could buy one from his raw materials stock or asking him where to get them as a raw material.
Here is a link to a company that sells the connectors - raw materials -
http://www.waytekwire.com/
When you get to their site in the category column select Connectors-Multi pin
then in the sub-category select Packard 280 series-metri pack
You have to buy a minimum quantity of ALL the parts Shell/pins and the crimping tool to assemble the plug/receptacle you are wanting to make. So, it would probably be a better idea to ask Quad. The color of the rubber protector is based on the gauge of wire that is running through your plug assembly.
Hope all that information helps you on your quest Purdue.
