I wouldn't think it would have a bad cylinder but ya never know.. The 610 series are pretty stout engines. The few bad things are the plastic intercoolers, lift pumps and door seals. Most of these problems were eliminated in later same year models.
In regards to the knock you may be hearing a clogged injector or one about to exit the building.

you can have the dealership reprogram the pcm so the tow/haul button is an overdrive lockout instead but the shift patterns will be the same as the non tow/haul programming, so I've heard.

Can you verify that please? Or where did you hear that? I was told no.. But....

I've had the OD lock-out done to my '05 and it is MUCH better than that lousy tow-haul setup. I push the button - OD is locked out. I push it again - the lockout is released. Be carefull after you have it done to remind the dealer that you have the lockout every time you have it serviced - especially if you have it flashed for anything - I just had two TSB flashes done and they wiped out my high idle and OD lockout - had to take it back.

The BD Overdrive Lockout is better than the factory setup because you can keep your tow/haul function and have it with o/d or without. A good bit more than $70, but worth it. It should have come that way in the first place.

I really think 05 is the best 3rd gen year... Best engine, and best interior... I really don't like the newer interior, too much mini-van influence.

05 dash
Yes I agree. I like the 05 dash the best.
I was using the tow/haul feature over the weekend pulling my camper. I don't have any of the later flashes but I liked how the transmission would downshift to third when I came out overdrive and pressed the tow haul button. The torque converter would lock immediately in third and stay there, until I took it out of Tow/haul. It would shift to fourth then. I thought it worked well. It shifted when I thought it should. I just didn't keep my foot to the floor either.
Its programmed well in my opinion. Much better shifting than my old 46RE ever was.

when in OD and i hit the tow/haul (once) it will downshift to 3rd but it only stays for about 15 seconds or so if i'm above about 40mph then it shifts back into OD (unless your in the pedal of course). i've never heard of any way to keep it in 3rd, might have to try that one.

Agree that the BD lockout module is the best solution and should have been implemented by DC.
