'05 48RE Changes?? Explain the "NO LOCKOUT"
#61
My $.02? The Tow/Haul mode sucks!
I live in the mountains and average about 800 miles per week of combined driving. Some of it is steep (10-12%) and some of it is 80mph SoCal freeway driving. The truck is just over two weeks old and it's getting ready to pass 2000 miles. I really, REALLY dislike the way the transmission shifts when driving in the hills. Like I said before, it sucks. My 2000 Dakota with the 47RE has an O/D OFF button that actually works like it's supposed to. The Dakota transmission kicks BUTT for mountain driving. So far, and again this is my opinion, the 48RE is a major disappointment. I can hit the T/H button and it does it's thing, then it starts to free wheel when I hit a certain speed or start coasting. If I blurp the throttle (a quick stomp) I can get it to downshift again without having to cycle it. But most of the time it just drops back to freewheel mode.
That is NOT a "feature" I want. Make this dumb thing an option, or just make it go away. If an owner wants the computer to do all of the thinking that's fine... but give guys like myself the OPTION to control the darn thing how I see fit. I did some searching and it appears somebody makes a gizmo that will let me take control back from the computer... can't wait to buy one! To those that like it, that's great. Different strokes for different folks. To those that are TELLING people like myself that this "feature" is great, I whole heartedly disagree. God Bless the USA for the right to express ones thoughts and God bless the person that comes up with a way to get this trans to stay locked up!
Aloha

I dont think theres any aftermarket Co. makeing a correction for this at this time . I'v called several and no one even seams that interested. Useing 2nd gear selection really isnt the answer either as you must keep the speed up too high.
And I'll tell you guys after reading about the new 6 speed allison ,in the 2006 G-M trucks, with there total gear selection controll, I'm almost ready to jump ship here
Any co that would put the allison with the cummins would dominate the market! And they wouldnt have the need for a childish horse power race, likes going on now , to make sales.
