'04 Dead, Misc. Codes...?????
Ok, heres what I know about it: Its an 04 model, not sure if its an early or late 04 model (think that was a change over year???) I can tell ya that it had to be trailered to a friends house to be fixed. He "gas ragged" it and it started and idled normal with no abnormal sounds. When he touched the accelerator pedal, the engine started black smoking like crazy and was trying to run away!. The keyswitch killed it. It had various codes on it, I can't remember the code numbers, but there were two that referred to the crankshaft angle sensor, one for the high pressure pump control circuit, two for the fan clutch, and one for a control module. And I THINK there was one for the throttle position sensor.
Other than that, he tried to pull the fuel filter out of it, only to find that it was full of dyed diesel and NO filter. Not sure if the filter was pulled before or after the failure, but its NOT in the filter housing and its NOT in the back of the truck!!.
All this being said, it kinda sounds to me like the high pressure pump control actuator has failed (possibly due to NO FILTER???) And my buddy gas ragging it and forcing it to start, then overspeed is what has thrown all the other codes. He said before he put the unleaded to it, the only code was for the injection pump control circuit.
I may be way off on this... if I get done with my other weekend project on Saturday, I'm gonna go try and help him with this basket case.
ANY info, help, ideas, and suggestions are welcome.... Thanks PMC!

If it only starts w/ help (gas or either)-its very possibly an injector prob.If the press sensor does not register the proper range the ecm figures it must be the actuator & logs the code-when actually its a loss of press due to a bad inj either having excess return flow or dumping into the combustion chamber, since you mentioned blake smoke & runaway-its prob the latter.Doing an inj block off test will tell you for sure & yes you need a special tool for that
