Unhappy 04.5 running very rough!!

Help!! Went out this weekend hunting and my truck started running very rough.sounds really loud from the exhaust, didn't notice any smoke, idles very rough.when you shut it down it really shakes badly.when i got home today i changed out the fuel filter but it didn't help.it almost sounds like my exhaust system has a hole in it.it was snowing very bad and i was driving through some real slushy highways,i thought i sucked up some water in my air filter.any ideas?? it does seem to run good at highway speeds

Any programmers? Did you pull the air filter and see if is was soaked?

It's hard to say what's wrong with it from your post. Tell us any mods that you have done with it.

Fuel pressure? Do you know what it is? Your lift pump could have took a poo, and any fuel you are getting is just what the CP3 can pull with a vacuum, but that's really bad for your CP3.

Check your oil. Is it high? Thin? Smell like Diesel? That means that an injector has went out, and is flooding your crankcase with fuel. Don't run it.

Like I said, it could be a million (ok, maybe 15) things. Shoot us some more info. There are some really intelligent diesel guys up in Canada... look up the Canada chapter.

Ya i know i didn't give much info, i run a smarty jr. and have a afe torque tube with a amsoil air filter.i will check the oil at work today.i know the temp. up here went from +20c to -10C this week and has been snowing so MAYBE the summer diesel is the problem.will throw in some fuel conditioner today as well.i really noticed a louder exhaust tone when you stand by the exhaust pipe while idling this real noticeable almost like i had a hole in my muffler!!fuel mileage hasn't suffered any this weekend.i have been real **** about changing my fuel filters at every oil change approx.3000 miles.i will check with my smarty to see if i have any codes thrown.

Well i ran a bottle of diesel kleen through it today, checked my oil level it seems okay no fuel smell to it.it really shakes when you shut it down,i also cleaned my air filter.i did do what another poster mentioned revving it up and taking my foot off the pedal and it doesn't drop off right away so it seems that it might not be injectors.will run it back and forth to work about 30 miles highway for a couple more days to see if the diesel kleen helps and then it is off to cummins$$$$

Do you still have the stock LP on the back of the fuel canister?

yes i do,will be adding a airdog 100 in the spring.i have no loss of power wouldn't that eliminate the lift pump?what i do find weird is that with my smarty jr. on level 3 my reverse door open horn safety bs was disabled which was a blessing until a couple of weeks ago.now the horn sounds when my truck is in reverse and door ajar!just another wierd finding.

Hmmm, a call to Smarty wouldn't be a bad idea.

Same thing with the Smarty unhooked and everything back to stock?

Check for codes. When my lift pump went on the fritz, it ran and skipped like crazy, then would clear up.

Dead!!!

Well buys i have an update, was out in the local gravel pit sighting in a rifle when the truck died on the highway like it ran out of fuel!!! through a code as well P0628 low voltage at lift pump. manged to limp home. i have a airdog 100 on the way from larry here on the site.i knew it was a matter of time and i guess the idle issues i was encountering a couple of weeks ago was indeed the lift pump acting up.From what others have said the ad100 is an easy install,my lift pump is on the block on my truck so i won't need to drop the tank.now living up in COLD Canada i guesss i will need to leave the stock canister on for the fuel heater??any pointers would be great
