I have written and read the same post over and over. My truck has tons of power but smokes heavy on start up. But clears up. And it shows blow by. Then 99% of responses say its a broken rings. Well my truck went down hill fast. considering I barely drive it. It went from burning a lot to making it. Well 6 new injectors (3 bad with soot all over them) and truck runs perfect and blow by is very little.( was bad have videos) Keep in mind truck is still about 3/4 of a quart over full. So I am guessing a oil change may cure the rest of blow by/ Valve clearance was ok. Nothing way off.
Truck is a 04.5 with 161k on it. never any major work. Never had motor open or turbo. Just passing this along to everyone searching for answers to Blow by and told broken ring. But seems to run perfect

 

Mine ran great for 1.5 years. Always used oil, about 1 gallon every 2-3 weeks. No hard start problems, good power, good milage and all. Then, I developed a miss. #5 went bad. Replaced inj, all downhill from there. 30 miles of driving = 2 gallons of oil. Pulled engine....#1 & #6 had broken rings, #3 was cracked and fell apart when pistons were removed. My build date is 7-2004. Good luck, but sounds a lot like mine.

 

I have only put about 1500 miles on truck in past 18 months. Some of them were plowing in blizzards. Never had a miss just started to idle real rough and put out a huge cloud of smoke on start up. But #5 was the worse. I knew that going in. I used a inferred temp and saw 5 was high. but smoke always cleared up

 

That was how mine went. I don't know why changing #5 had the effect it did.....but that's where mine went south in hurry. I've almost got mine back running. A few things left to get and button up. Then hopefully a long time without problems.
