Just returned from Mississippi and water pump is leaking. Had a customer in with a Ford Deisel who had just replaced his transmission (22000 miles) .
When i told him my truck had just dropped a water pump he asked me what year it was. When i told him it was an 03 he said he had a friend who had an 03 and had just replaced his second water pump.
Is there something going on with these water pumps or is he just trying to get away from discussing his tranny?

 

don't know for sure if there is a widespread problem, but my brother had to replace his as well under warranty in his 03 at about 25k

 

Just looked on ebay and it appears that it is the same pump used prior too and after the 01 models. Not to pricey but i'll bet they are a bear to change.

 

In older models the water pump is a piece of cake to change.Dosen't look any harder on a 3g.

 

We are in a cold snap right now , wind chill below 0 all day today. My shop is full so no room to get it in and look at it but i have an aftermarket warranty i have not used yet so guess i will see how good it is before i make the next 10 payments on it
