That's the same we got at Jeff's open house at McDonough, Ga. yesterday. Jeff sold out his part of STP and started his own shop. Had a couple of 03's come by and put one on the dyno and got the same numbers. 240 HP n' 450 torque. HO 6 speed. And looking at it from the bottom,uh, things just don't look stout. And to hear it run , we put a ford gasser on the dyno that was more noise. Stock. To quite. And one ,more thing, I don't think the 4" exhaust is a 4 ". Maybe 3 3/4 but not a 4. This truck had a 4" muffler on it and it was necked down. Will I get one? Maybe. When my 96 dies.

..Preston..

It was a 3/4 ton extended cab with the short box. Ok just kidding. The former was true but what you want to know is that it was the new 6.0 with the new auto. I dont know what gears it had in it. The dyno doesnt care anyways. They ran the truck up twice on the torque but it just didnt have it. A lot of folks were interested in that run and must have been 50 people watching. Plenty of witnessess. 380 some odd was all she was good for. Subjectively the truck was as quiet as a new Dodge but had a more tinny tone that I didnt like. As I said the Peirre Ford guy got awful scarce real quick. BTW the top Ford went 317.

Hard to believe the ford put up such sorry numbers after all the hype.
[/quote]

Ford did the same thing when they brought out the 99 Cobra. they bragged about all the power it was making and when people started Dynoing them they were coming up about 60horse short. So Ford had to pay for everyone to get a new exhaust system, intake extrude honed, just to make it close to the numbers.

I went to pickuptruck.com and read the test they did between the duramax, 6.0 powerstoke and cummins HO. It was a pretty fair test except for the fact the dodge was a heavier dually (about 900 pounds) and the rest were srw. To make a long story short they were all close iin the 7% and 15% grade pulling 12000 pounds. The Ford, however, came out on top everytime. This is what makes these "low" dyno power figures all the more interesting. If you haven't read this article youshould go checkout the stats. I would be interesting to see what would happen if they added another 5 or 10 thousand pounds. I think the v-8 engine times would slow down considerably more thanthe cummins would. Just my hunch.

All this HP and torque talk is nice, but the stuff that really interests me is usefullness. And what I mean by that is, where is that power, and how long does it last. Had to laugh a bit at Ford's latest add in all the magazines, puffing up the new PSD. They were all proud about the 200k major overhaul interval... What is that, 150k SHORT of my CTD??!! That's what I'm talkin' about!!!!

Re:03 Dodge vs 03 Ford 6.0 on the Dyno...
I have posted this a few places tonight but I drove a PSD 6.0 today. I would say the advantage was gained in the high red line. From what I could find the torque does not kick in until over 2000 rpms and I bet it is higher than that. The real power seemed to kick in about 3000 rpms and it redlines at 4200 or 4300 rpms. This ment they did not have to shift as many times in the short distances. In real life towing I bet they would have to down shift more often to get the engine in the power band. The CTD seems to always be in the power band.

The real strength of that truck I think will be the new 5 speed auto. It seem to shift just at the right time and made the engine shine. We'll see if it holds up to all of the down shifting when the horse power is needed.

Just thinking out loud here but what is the possibility that if Ford provided this truck for the pickuptruck.com, that they tweaked it up just a bit before giving it to them, lower things have happened.

Also I didn't read all that article but from what I saw this pulling up a grade test was done from a standing stop. May be it is just me but I could care less about that, what I want to know is how it hold speed on that grade hitting it at 65 mph. Also that would elimintate the human error in shifting going up the grade.

Food for though

Re:03 Dodge vs 03 Ford 6.0 on the Dyno...
The RPM thing is what tells me...where they get the HP. Look at the RPM limits since 89 on the Cummins...I might be wrong but maybe the big three are pushing the rpm limits up to wear out the engine as fast as a truck? Or is the rpm rise ONLY for emissions?
I think a diesel should not rev that high...but what do I know.
