"03 CRUSIE CONTROL surge TSB ?
My stock "03" had a mild surge with the crusie control engaged. I put on a box and it amplified the problem. The maker of the box said the "03" had a TSB for this issue.(he didn't know the #). Do any of you out there with the "03" CTD know this fix?

"Check your throttle position sensor and replace first"
I have heard of this cure but it is a no fix from the folks I've talked to. It is not a big pain in stock setup but the box makes it rear it's ugly head. I think they changed the crusie control system in "04.5" not sure.... the "03" uses a vacuum assist type and I think in "04.5" they went to total electronic...
Dave65 Does your "04" have the vacuum pump ? Mine is mounted on the firewall on the passenger side. The vacuum diagphram is under the battery on the drivers side. My "99" was this way but I think they changed things sometime after "03"

The cruise control issue is not a TSB. It is a safety recall. Notification # CO2. It involves a reflash. On some of the trucks the cruise control did not disengage when it was supposed to. I received the recall notice in March of 2003 and had the reflash done shortly there after.

Thanks for the info on the C02 recall for the "03" cruise control reflash I'll check with my dealer and see if it was done to my "03" It may deal with more than the saftey issue. (I bet it already has been done I had several reflashes done after I bought it) He is very interested in fixing the problem! I just have to keep him pointed in the right direction.

That reflash isn't going to fix your problem. It's a "defect" of sorts with the high pressure fuel pump. Most 03/04's I've encountered have it, and they all have it if you're using cruise or not. It's a lot easier to notice in the manual tranny equipped trucks. I noticed mine doing it on the interstate the day I picked it up from the dealer and it's not changed since. It really plays havoc with the EZ, especially in cold weather. It surges at idle now, exactly as if you blipped the throttle really quick.
I also noticed that in the winter after warming it up, letting it sit for a little bit to cool down (but not completely), and restarting and driving it surges like mad until it's warm.

The throttle position sensor the surge will only happen at the speed which you usually set the cruise as it has worn a flat spot there there. It may never set a code! 3 dealers and a Chiltons manual to figure that one

runamuk,
I will look into the sensor issue. I may seem a bit skeptical of the tps because it had the problem from the day it was new....but hardly noticable. When I put the box on it amplified it! But it appears you have been there and done that so I will definatly look into that as the cause. Did you have an "03" before the "05"? What does the sensor cost?
Thanks

Here's a thought. Has anyone done the throttle calibration? Disconnect the batteries for about 15 minutes and reconnect. Turn the ignition switch to 'ON' but don't start the engine! Slowly press the throttle till it bottoms. Turn the ignition switch 'OFF' while the throttle is still down. Lift the throttle and start the truck.

Realsquash, I know the surge you are talking about. I let off the throttle a few seconds before shifting from second to third because it will continue accelerating to my desired shift point(most noticable in second). Hey xyzer, the recall was for something about continued acceleration after braking or pressing in the clutch(when cruise control is supposed to disengage) and it was only for the earlier six speeds not the autos.
