0 degrees...

The last 2 days have been pretty cold here and leaving work tonite it was 0 according to overhead comp. This is my first winter w/ a diesel and I must say, the Cummins starts better in cold weather than my old GMC gasser! I love this truck! ;D

Re:0 degrees...

Although I'm not down to zero (fahrenheit) yet, I agree with you -- I love this truck.
I think it is a joyous thing because I have no experience with diesels or trucks. Now, at fifty, I am experiencing something completely new. The last time I did that I was 12 years old.

Re:0 degrees...

Alright guys, enough already. Just Kidding. I grew up in Big Timber. I remember when I had my first truck. Found out the hard way about setting the parking brake and leaving the tranny in something other than neutral. Only get to see Zero or below once and a while now. 59 degrees with 59 dewpoint this morning in sunnystillmowingthegrass Ky.

Take care, Ed

Re:0 degrees...

Hey Gonzo, not bad now that the temps are down. A buddy got a nice 4x5 whitetail yesterday. Not much doing for Elk, antelope tag is filled, but I pretty much save Deer for the last 2 weeks of nov. That week of stinking 80 degrees here in G.F. really hurt the hunting, but it should be alot better now.-Steve

It was MINUS 22C° here last night and a windchill near -30C°

Had the furnace in the shop keeping the truck warm.

Re:0 degrees...

It was -17C (1F) here last night. I had the truck plugged in overnight and it started with minimal "clatter" this morning. I drove 6 miles to work and had warm air blowing about 3/4's of the way there. The temp guage didn't make it into the "normal" section until I arrived at work and didn't make it to fully operating temperature which is +95C (203F) at all. I'm sure it will start fine when the weather gets down to our normal overnight lows of -25C (-13F), but in cab heat and getting it to warm up to normal operating temperature will be another thing.

I'm thinking about a winter front and an interior car warmer. Anyone found a neat winter front?

Re:0 degrees...

I might get a Lund winter front...inserts for the grill.

I am still going to get an ESPAR heater.

Re:0 degrees...

When the temps get "cold" here, I use winter fronts.
On those few days when we get real cold, I also add a piece of cardboard with a 6" hole cut in the center slipped between the radiator and the Intercooler to get those temps up a little quicker and get the temp needle into the normal range.

Scotty:

Did you post about a group buy of the Espar?

If so, I'd be interested...

Re:0 degrees...

A friend of mine got a bunch of them last year and paid 1350.00 Canadian each with the remote.

IF thats a good deal, I will see if he can get more.

Has anyone else got a price for them?

That would be about $1,000.00 USD right now.

Scotty

Scotty, Let me know if you find a place for the espar heater under the hood. Espar says there isn't room on the 3rd Gen trucks. Maybe they are wrong!!
