on my service truck, I mounted a 5.5hp Honda and compressor combo on my headache rack, and mounted a 10gal air tank between the bedside and the frame rail. then ran back from the tank to a hose-reel mounted in the bed.

it wasn't as svelte or powerful as an underhood twin screw, but for ~$500, it kept up with everything I used it for, and didn't require that the truck be idling in order to use it.

Ya you bet my dads air tank is mounted underneath on the frame rail tucked away so you cant see it, and the hose real is mounted in top side of his service deck.

I plan to convert the truck to a flatbed and the whole idea of having internal and external air will change so when that is done, I will re-evaluate the application.

Depends on your use for the compressor, but I have a Kilby setup (not plumbed yet) on my truck. I have used york compressors, and kilby OBA kits on ALOT of vehicles (Brad Kilby is a friend of mine, and I used to work for him) and if you use them as intended, they work great... But they won't be on the same par as an industrial size compressor that is meant to be used all day long.
