$400 is a great price. I paid $500 to an old acquaintance/friend. My back door is sore.

Ok Con OFE $1400 installed. Sound like a deal? Guess I need to check clutch prices They said it will also need the slave cylinder upgrade for another $250 but I don't think that is necessary from reading here. From what I gather stock slave cylinder is fine for OFE but if I were putting a DD in there it would need to be upgraded. Sound right? Please tell me I don't need to spend another $250 on this and thanks for the comments.

That's a good installed price. You will get the SMF with the OFE. I'd talk to Peter himself@ SBC for advice about the hydraulic upgrade. The website recommends it. I got a quote of $600 labor in Orange County by one of his distributor/installers for my '07. I'm gonna milk this stock one.

I put my own OFE in a few weeks ago and I upgraded the hydraulics. The hydraulics are pretty easy so you can do that yourself later if you want.

Dumping the stock dual mass flywheel will give you a bit more chatter if you lug it at slow speeds. You will also hear a bit of chatter when idling in neutral with the clutch out. It is the price you pay to have a clutch that won’t slip with a little added power.

I don’t think $400 is too bad at all There is some effort involve in changing these clutches. The flywheel itself is around 60 LBS.

I see you have the GV unit as well. This makes for a bit more effort too. I left the GV attached to the transfer case and took the transfer case off the transmission. You'll get a bit more clunk with the GV downshifts too.

Yeah I wondered about the gear vendors and I'm glad you mentioned that. I'll let those guys know about it when we get ready to put the clutch in. I'll call Peter before hand too and check about the hydraulics upgrade. If he thinks it would be best upgraded I'll go ahead and do it. The shop doing the job told me they'd install that along with the clutch for $400 so aside from the extra $250 parts cost it's not any more for labor. I'd rather they install it anyways. I know everyone says it's easy to do but I've never messed with a slave cylinder before and wouldn't have a clue. Also I know from here it doesn't come with instructions you just have to take things apart and figure it out and from a post I read there seemed to be some confusion about the washers in the kit. One guy said he could do it in about 15 minutes but I couldn't and don't want to deal with it Well I'm all set now and can't wait to get it done this July. I've always been afraid of the stock clutch and never really hammered on it before... Need to get off my lazy butt and do gauges too never liked hammering on it without those in there either..

I had it done for $ 280.00 based on labor rate and hrs published in the standard rate book for the job.

My problems continue with the SBC Clutch I had installed. I'm not the only one with the problem.

See the thread at

Yeah I've seen the thread and heard about clattering problems with different kinds of SBC's from a few people. I'm a little concerned about it that it's why I asked in an earlier post here about any "quirks" with the OFE. Seems some people have them with no issues like that at all and a few do. Is it the product or was something done wrong with installation? Is that what happens if you don't upgrade hydraulics? I don't know but really that's why I won't even attempt a clutch install myself I'd probably screw it up. Did you have yours installed by a dealer at that rate or just a transmission shop? My problem is finding a shop familiar with these trucks and more importantly one that has installed plenty of SBC's on these trucks. I found a two that do. I doubt my dealer installs SBC's on a routine basis but I could be wrong. I guess it might be worth my while to check with them also.

I had mine done at a local shop that I've been using for years. The owner knows his stuff. I think less of the younger guy who talked him into having the tranny torn down to prove the imput shaft bearing was making noise.

Everyone is trying to be really helpful to resolve my problem. Only problem is
I'm paying for it so to speak.

Valair has been banned from this forum I would advise you read this before looking at purchasing ANYTHING from them.

Here is an example of how they apparently do business; http://towrig.com/forums/showthread....ghlight=clutch
