$400 labor for clutch install - is that ok?
I found a local shop that'll put a clutch in for $400 is that pretty good? I'm thinking it's not too bad. It'd take me all day or longer to do it. Never put a clutch in before and don't really want to mess with it. What do you think? Also open to suggestions on which south bend would suit my needs. I'll never go over 500hp, probably not even close to that, I planned on an x2 stack with the jr somewhere down the road and that's it. I guess a Con OFE would be enough for that or should I go ahead and get a Con FE just in case? What about the flywheel replace it?

Pretty good price for clutch change. I've get mine done for $200 Labor, but mine is a 2wd 12 valve. Only took about 3 hours. Yes, go bigger on clutch than for what HP you are at now.

Still wondering about the flywheel. I've read on here it is dual mass or something and should be replaced. Is that right? Can someone explain? I don't know crap about clutches and only want to do this once.

I'm leaning towards the OFE. Never driven a truck with one of these clutches before and don't really know what to expect from one. What I am seeing is that guys say the OFE is more "streetable" than the FE. The FE is more grabby and harder to back up trailers. One guy is running 600HP on an OFE. If it is smoother that's what I want. I don't tow a lot but if I do I don't want a clutch that's annoying to use when backing up. I'm reading about hydraulic upgrade but don't believe that will be necessary seems to be more of a mod that's needed for the DD clutches. Still don't know about the flywheel. When you buy a SB clutch do they also include a new flywheel or is that something you buy seperate? Also anyone know what an OFE costs feel free to pm me that may be against the rules posting pricing info on the open forum...

I would definitely get rid of the DMf and go with the SBC SMF. I have "heard" that there has been an upgrade on the DMF ( I guess thats why the price went from $289 to $800). Heavy duty clutch deserves a heavy duty flywheel.
I had my flywheel replaced at 90,000 miles. I went back with a stock flywheel because of time restraints.
just my .02

I have the OFE on my truck. Very smooth with pedal pressure very, very close to stock. It's been a couple years, but I'm thinking my clutch cost me around $750.00 or so. If South Bend has a flywheel upgrade available to replace the dual mass set-up, I'd jump on it. Also, if you haven't already done it, give South Bend Clutch a call and ask for Peter. Very nice guy, easy to talk to and very knowledgeable. He's happy to answer any questions you have, so don't be afraid to ask.

Ok, I'll do that when I get closer to buying one. Another question, I read guys talking about the DD clutch making clattering noises and stuff that is supposedly normal and you just live with it. Are there any quirks like that with an OFE or should it be a quiet clutch?
