No start help..

Hey guys and gals, Thank you for the help in advance. So this issue has now happened several times and we're getting ready to take a trip so I need to resolve. When I go to start truck key on all dash lights on fuel pump on and turn key and nothing. No clicks or sounds at all. I cleaned all battery terminals and starter terminal connections. Of course truck starts right up after that. Drive all day and next morning same thing. Is it possibly an ignition switch on its way out? Is there a safety switch for my clutch pedal? It will start with no clutch in and also in neutral. My 97 wouldn't, you had to have clutch in to start. Anyways any suggestions are appreciated.

I don't have a wiring diagram for your truck, but generally I like to start troubleshooting this type of problem at the starter relay. If you have the factory service manual for your truck, it makes it a lot easier.

Basically, the relay needs power to one side of the coil and ground to the other to make the relay fire. I would use an LED test light on the starter relay coil terminals while a helper turns the key to 'start', to see which signal, if any is missing, then would use the diagram to backtrack through the circuit and find the problem.

I've got an auto, so this is just a guess, but my wife's '03 Honda had a safety switch on the brake pedal that failed causing a no start. I also recently looked at a '99 Ram gasser that had a safety switch on the clutch.

I would check for the switch first, as it's probably easiest to diagnose and replace.

Good luck!

Thanks guys I'll try both of your suggestions. I'm still happy to have more input.
