Dealer says I need a reflash for PCM, TIPM, & CCN

Dropped off the 2006 3500 today for HVAC work (only vent available, cannot switch to defrost, etc).
I nearly fell over after hearing the quote !!!

Anyway, he says I need to flash updated software for the Powertrain Control Module, the TIPM, and the CCN.
And he want's $120 for this update.

This is all black magic to me, so I thought I'd check with the forum.
However, why would I update SW if the truck was running just fine before ?
And why would I pay for this ?

Any suggestions ?

Thanks in advance.

Updating software in anything is rarely "needed". If the truck is doing fine now, I wouldn't pay for it. Seems like every time you update something, then something else quits working. Probably some emissions thing.

look up heater treater door to fix your problem for a $1,000 less money. most of the tipm flash has to do with current level trip codes associated with lighting, do not let them do it. if you tow you need to isolate the trailer plug from the tipm, there are several on the market or i can send schematic and pix to build one.

Sounds like your "blend door" has broken. I found this is a common problem. It happened to me twice. First time it was still under warranty and second time they fortunately treated me well (hmmm, have to actually think about that one) and charged me a lot less due to having a completely cracked dash that really had no reason to be so and got replaced. Thus, I got charged less for the repair.
