2005 cummin no power?

hey guys new to the forum and having some problems with my new truck. well new used truck anyway. just picked up a 2005 cummins 3500. ran great for the first month i had it. soon the fun ended and my truck experienced a huge loss in power. blowing black smoke and no get up and go. It takes me forever to get up to hwy speed and when i hammer on the gass all i get is smoke (black) and it wont even down shift properly. i have a feeling it has something to do with the turbo and im running with no spool. possibly the actuator on the wastgate?

if you guys have anything that i could check out or any suggestions that woulf be great. thanks.

Check all the tubes after the turbo sounds like a hose popped off or you split the plastic tank on the intercooler.

Probably the CAC split the plastic endtanks is the best guess.

Are there any codes? Could be fuel related as well. Injector or harness perhaps. Just throwing a different thought out there since that's what I'm fixing on mine right now. I had a p2149 code

Check your air filter, I have read about several aftermaket filters breaking and blocking the air intake.

Black smoke means you are lacking air, so starting with the air filter work your way to the motor. If that's all sound then check for exhaust leaks before the turbo.

The early 05's did have plastic end tanked intercoolers, which were prone to failure. When mine failed it worked fine below 20 psi, but once you hit 26-28 it would bleed off and EGT's would sky-rocket. I never noticed it except when towing or pulling big grades empty. I only had to drive with it that way for a month or so and got it warrantied.

Checked all hoses tubes and filters along with fuses. Nothing abnormal took the hose off of my intake manifold and ran the truck and it ran the same as if it were on. Intercooler looks good to me no large cracks visable. Check engine light is on but dont know the code as of now.

Turn the key on/off....on/off.....on/off.....on......don't start the engine....codes will be displayed in the odometer window.

P0234-turbocharger overboost condition

p1751-transmission throttle valve position minimum range performance

p1753-transmission throttle valve mechanical performance

I would fix the two trans codes and go from there.
