05 wont start after unhooking batteries
I unhooked my batteries to fix two broken wires at the back door (door lock and rear light). when I hooked the batteries back up the truck acted like the key was in and at the "on" position and then proceeded to try to start itself. no key in the ignition what so ever. truck wont start now. I attempted unhooking and hooking the batteries back up several more times with the same result. Truck is a 2005 2500. I do have a smarty programmed on the truck. help please!

i have checked fuses. relays best i can, i switched them around. the truck turns over but wont start. when i hook up the batteries you can hear the fuel pump then approximately 60 seconds later it turns over by itself but doesnt start. no key in ignition.

Wow what a strange problem, having no key in and the truck wants to try to start when you connect the battery. Have you left the batteries unplugged over night?
Have you put the key in and tried to cycle the truck without the batteries connected? This may discharge any capacitors and may reset the truck. After this you could try to reconnect the batteries and see if the truck turns on without the key. Just some thing to try.

Sounds like you have a short and or back feeding something into the truck. I would check your wire repairs for problems or error. Was this something that happened or you bought the truck this way and decided to fix? door lock wire makes me think you could have alarm/auto start and its malfunctioning due to your repair.

So after changing the batteries and checking all the fuses I continued to have the same sypmtons. When i hooked up the batteries the truck acted as if the ignition was in the on position and after about one minute would crank over. I ended up unhooking the batteries, pulling the ignition on/run fuse, putting the key in the ignition and turning it to the on position, then hooking the batteries back up. The truck behaved the same way except for this time it started when it turned over. So now i have a running truck. truck didnt turn off when the key was cycled to the off position until i touched the brakes. I put the fuse back in and all seems to be normal again. I have no idea *** happened but it seems to be normal now. Thank you to all who tried to help.
