Would you trade trucks??

would ya'll trade a 99 qc sb srw ( truck in my sig.) for a 97 reg cab lb drw? both autos. 99 with 236,000 miles and 97 with 150,000 ish miles?? i hate my vp and would love a long bed dually. i am 22 with no kids and have no use for the qc except for a catch all. there is plenty of room behind the reg cab for my deer rifle. so what would you do?? what are the pro's and con's?? right now i am wanting a 12v so bad i can't stand it. plus i want a long bed 3500. i am really trying to decide if i can live with a reg cab. thanks

It sounds like you want to give it a shot, then why not? If you end up not liking it, you can always find a 24v again. And the 12v has a lower mileage to boot. I personally don't want a dually but it seems like what you want. I can't see how a reg. cab would be a problem if you have no kids and wife to put "stuff" in the back. What I also do, is carry plastic closed lid boxes in the bed for "stuff", or if you have a tool box that will do for storage.

plastic booxes!!! that is an awesome idea. one of my problems was, if i went on a long distance trip then i would have to put my luggage in the bed and would be at the mercy of the weather. that would keep things dry though. very good idea, thank you.

if you're getting the 12v + cash, go for it... I don't think I'd make that trade straight across... you'd be better of selling your truck and then going shopping

forest, first off i love your red 12v!! i would really like a manual like yours. i have thought about that too. here in the south there are hardly any trucks to be found. i search the autotrader daily. cummins are hard to find here. fords are a dime a dozen. but i have thought about selling it outright. what do ya'll think it would be worth.

i know it. i've seen it in the classifieds and watched the video of when you last dynoed it. sweet, sweet truck. i would love to have it, but i am sure i cannot afford it. pm me the price for gits and shiggles. i love the idea of any 12v with a 6 spd. and 4 wheel discs. thats just awesome. dc wouldn't make it, someone did. anyway i have always been a big fan of it.

I would think that the value of the two trucks would be pretty close, sans the QC difference. Stock for stock, at least. The 97 is older, but 90k miles less. Not to mention, reg cab duallies are just plain sexy. Depends on how attached you are to your truck. I see you have a fair bit done to your truck, which is gonna make it harder to trade. I know I'd have trouble just trading my truck off. If you can swap them, and pull any interchangeable parts off your 99, then it may be worth doing.

I bet up here the 97 would go for more. 24v's up here are a dime a dozen.

22 years old, no kids. A tennis shoe ad used to say "Just Do It". I would. My dad's 94 reg cab has plenty of room behind the seat. I just like to drive it when I'm visiting because its so easy to park!

How long will you keep the 12V? Money mistakes lessen if the truck is exactly what you want & will keep it. Sort of "it was worth it to me". Ask a bank for loan & retail value on both trucks to get a better idea of dollar value then decide. I wanted a 12V but was so specific on options that I couldn't find 1 like I wanted. The 24 was very close except for the engine and at a price I couldn't turn down so I bought it.

I agree, but the 12v is the deciding factor for ME... I've got buddies that have 24v trucks and they love them, but it's a deciding issue for me. 12v = yes, 24v = no

Don't you think a 3500 is a little overkill? I would not trade my ext. cab for reg. cab. But that's just me. I'd just wait till the engine died in your 99, then dump a 12v in it. Or just do a swap now. You can pick up a used 12v engine for a reasonable price and it should just be a direct swap, no? Plus, it sounds like you got a lot of goodies in your current truck. If you trade, you might get jipped.
