Wondering about the stereo in my truck

Seems like to topic of the stock stereo is coming up a lot so I'll chime in with my issues and questions.

First, I have the tweeters on the pillar (98.5 24v quad cab), does that mean I have the infinity system?

The problem is that it won't read CDs. None of 'em. It just says "err" when I put 'em in the slot. Is this common? Is there an easy fix? Should I just bite the bullett and install an aftermarket? If so, who makes a 1.5 din to fit?

I did and I'm happy I did.
Bought a brand new Sony eXplode off eBay for $89 and a wiring harness for $10.
Took 20 minutes to install, has twice the wattage as the Infinity, plays mp3s and even has an aux jack for my iPod.

I have had that problem before , I purchased a can on air from office depot and sprayed it into the cd slot. I think the eye is just covered with dust and can't see the cd.
It solved my problem. I am sure you will have people tell you not to do it that it may mess something up but what do you have to lose. You are considering replacing it anyway.

I have the stock infinity system and the speakers are garbage but the deck still works fine. Try the blow out as described above if it already doesn't work.

My truck did that with any burned CD and has begun to do it to factory created CD's. I have been ejecting the CD, rotating it a few degrees and reinserting it. Usually works after the first couple of tries. But if you need to get by, that might work for you too. I figure I'm burning out the eject mechanism at four or five times normal, but I will eventually replace with aftermarket. I just wish there was a din-and-a-half that wasn't ugly or way too expensive so I could get an exact fit aftermarket.

Spraying it out with the can-o-air did the trick. It doesn't read the CDR's that I make with my computer though. It must be "one of those" that doesn't.
