Windshield Wiper's Kaput Again!

Well a month ago I hit the windshield wash button and it blew the fuse, i.e. no wipers. >....Took it in and they "fixed" the problem. Well, NOT! Happend again this morning on the way to work > while it was raining >, hit the button and it blew the fuse. I have to take it back in the morning to get it fixed "they were to buisy tonight" :.. We shall see waht they replace this time! Last time they replaced the wiper motor, and it blew the fuse, so then they threw a new wiper switch controler in and it has worked fine till now. Does anybody do diagnostic work any more? ??? Or do these so called "skilled techs" just throw parts at rigs now? We shall see in the morning!

JMO, but diagnostic work takes time, especially electrical, swapping parts known to "more than likely" be the cause of the problem is much faster. I bet the wiper motor is the next swap.

Re:Windshield Wiper's Kaput Again!

Went to dodge this morning. They put a new fuse in and it works just fine ???....Imagine that, they messed with it for 2.5hrs and could find no problems at all. They gave me a hand full of fuses and said if it happens again put a new one in and see if it will blow and keep track of what the rig was doing at the time and what you had turned on or off. I told them the same things were turned on and running when it happend, same exact senario all three times. They shrugged their shoulders and said well if it does this again bring it back and we'll take a look again. :P I played with that switch all the way home (1hr drive) and it works just fine, go figure. I guess we wait to see if it happens again! :-X

Re:Windshield Wiper's Kaput Again!

Suggestion: The bearings where the shaft connects to the wiper arms could be semi seized. Perhaps after some use they get hot and seize even more which places a large load on the wiper motor. This could blow the fuse and when things cool down everything will work just fine. So for a test, lift the wiper arms off the glass and run the wipers for half and hour and see what happens. Listen for strange noises and also put your finger on each shaft and see if one is a little warm.
Let us all know the solution.

I'd look for water in the wiper motor, or damaged cable where it can get wet. Mechanics should have tested this with garden hose.

AlpineRAM

;D four letter words ;D I won't write them notorious four letter words- I could lose my brownie points on this site ;D
I'd do this myself, I have pulled the wiper motor on mine and it was full of water. Dried, cleaned, with new brushes for the motor ( some cents, generic parts) and some good sealant on the motor cup good to go again.

AlpineRAM
