Why go from 1st gen to 2nd gen
I am considering going from my 93 1st gen to a second gen.
What is the hp and torque gain from 1st to 2nd?
I tow a 7000lb TT.
Why would I move up?
My 93 is in very good shape, so should I invest in the mods to up hp and torque, etc.
Thanks

The second gen trucks are more comfortable, and available as a quad cab, if that is an issue for you (it isn't for me) Have you wished more than once or twice that you had a 4x4?
But that said I love a nice clean first gen, you can pretty easily get enough power to tow your TT as fast as you should from your VE pump.
IMHO if you are looking for towing power, there isn't an advantage to a second gen over a first gen (or even a third gen). They can all produce plenty, especially the 93 with the IC.

Parts availability would be my only motivation. If you have an intercooled truck, what do you expect to gain?
The newer 12 valves have more support in the aftermarket and the newer you get, the more that is available. You also get the bigger cabs, ect and moving newer, better brakes.
It all depends on what you want. If you are perfectly happy with your truck, why not take somethign that has no payment and make it he hauler you wanted. It sure beats a car payment every month.

98 12v's had the quad cab.
My friend had a 1st gen dodge gasser and just from a ride standpoint the 2nd gens ride alot nicer, have alot nicer interiors etc, but power can be had from both. I'd switch if u want a more comfortable ride and the looks of the 2nd gen are great to.

I've never ridden in a 1st gen, the ride in my dually unloaded is bumpy to say the least, so I imagine your first gens must throw you around the cab when you hit a small pothole.
That said, I'm sure the ride is a lot nice with your trailer on back.
If I were you I would keep your truck though, and put that money that you would be spending paying off a newer 2nd gen into your current truck.
The motors aren't that much different, I wouldn't switch just for that reason.
Just my opinion .

Keep the 1st gen. The older you become, the neater & more excentric you both will seem. Get a newer truck if you must but keep the old. Along the line "I don't know what a ram sell for. I've never sold one."

I stepped up to a 2001 from a 1992. What I gained was(in priority):
-more cab space(have a daughter and another on the way), quad cab doors are nice for strapping her into the car seat
-WAY smoother, my '92 4X4 rode like a lumber wagon(even with a 2" front lift and the rear overloads replaced with airbags), the 2001 rides like a cadillac in comparison
-WAY quiter inside
-more power, my 2001 had more power stock than my '92 did tweaked out
-heated leather seats, REALLY nice up here on those cold winter mornings or even after a hard day on the tractor I turn it on and crank the lumbar up
However I paid twice as much for the '01 as the '92, but I think its worth it!

In my opinion , invest in the '93.The ride of a 2wd is quite comparable to a 2nd gen. As far as the 4x4 's they ride rough because they are a truck and built like one .The 2nd gen 4x4 was an attempt to smooth the ride and did but at the expense of reliability and servicabilty.

I just changed from a 92 ext cab,2wd,5 spd,4:10 to a 2001 quad cab 4 wd auto,4x4.The only thing I miss is the captains seat(very comfortable) and the fuel mileage is down when not towing (from 20mpg to 18mpg)Newer truck is a lot quiter inside

Keep that 93, with all you have in it, it should really do a job. The only thing I would recommend is changing the seating like I did when I had my 93. I had more than enough power and good fuel mileage towing or not. I thought I would like the new style so I got a 96. It had power to tow but not like the 93, then I got the urge for a quad cab so I got a 00 quad cab. My wife and I both wish we kept our 93.
Just my $.02.
