What would you pay???

Hey guys, I found a 98.5 24-valve 3/4 ton 5 spd locally, it's in near perfect condition but it has 300,000 miles on the ticker...I know that as long as it's been maintained good it can still have quite a bit of life left. The guy sellin it told me to make an offer that he thought it was worth 10,500 but he's just waitin on someone to offer him something. I checked Kelley Blue Book and they priced it at 9,250 in EXCELLENT condition. The question I'm trying to get to is what would ya'll offer for something like this. I appreciate your help!

Hey Wiild, welcome to the board!! Personally, I dont know if I would be willing to pay anywhere near that for a 98.5 24 valve with that many miles. I would look around a bit more. You might be able to find a better deal on a 12 valve with way less miles. I know these trucks can run forever, but I think thats a bit of a gamble. just my 0.02
Good luck
Tom

The engine may be good for another 300k, but I doubt the rest of the truck is. It is not worth the $10500 he thinks it is. I say pass on this one.

Thanks guys, that's what I was thinking too...I would rather have a 12 valve but they're just so hard to find around here especially with a 5 spd or beat beyond repair. Thanks for your replys.

I forgot to welcome you to DTR last time, so we're glad you're here. You just found the best diesel site in the world.

And if you can wait a bit a 12v in god shape can usually be found for a reasonable price. I bought the one in my signature 2 weeks ago, bone stock, with 118k on the ticker.

I cannot tell you enough to wait on a good deal. I am picking upthe one in my sig. tomorrow and was looking for 2 years. I am getting a great deal on it and I am glad I waited. 12v are somewhat overpriced sometimes. Let them go, another one will pop up. Just be patient and a great truck will come along.

When it comes to trucks there is always another one waiting...

You will be glad you waited for a 12 valve- c'mon out to Colorado, there are a lot of diesels out here, many of them commute trucks (the very best kind to get- all highway, no offroad, hardly ever did any WORK)

See if you can get with a buyer thats out here.

Jimmy
