what type of tranny do i have ...

i have a 96 cummins, actually 12/95 is the the real build date... i thought i had a 47re or 47 rh...??? im curious what kind of tranny i have. mainly because i wanna rebuild it or i would like to do a conversion to a manual. is it possible if i could get a donor truck to just strip everything off of it to get what i need for the swap... but in the end i will be buying a new clutch and 5th gear nut if i end up doing this. im just looking for the cheapest way to do this.
thanks
john

1996 should be the 47RE.

Mine was built 2 months after yours, and I have the 47re. There's no cheap way to do it right. You could try a stock rebuild, with a good valve body (or shift kit) and torque converter, but that 100 plate will eventually kill it anyway. The best bet is one of the trans specialists, like Goerends, DTT, Suncoast, or ATS. You can buy their rebuild kit and do it yourself.

thanks for the help...
now anyone know if i could convert the tranny to a manual? well yes i can answere that myself but what i mean is, can i convert it using only parts from a donor truck? or is there special stuff i need besides the 5th gear nut and the heavyduty clutch . also what years could i use the transmission out if i can find a donr truck?
thanks for the help with identifying my auto for me,

I've got the 100 plate in my 96 with the 47RE. I put the plate in at about 50K and i've got 174K on it now and the tranny is still going. I'm knocking on wood as I type.

I'm running just a DTT valvebody and I'm well over what the power in my sig says. 103k on it and still going strong.

That's good to hear... I've got a #10 plate sitting on my desk just waiting to be installed but I've just been a little weary about it thinking I will quickly destroy my stock tranny. Did you install a shift kit (like Transgo) or anything? I'm looking at the Transgo shift kit + B&M tranny cooler. I don't have the money for a tranny rebuild/upgrade right now...

My tranny is bone stock. I change the fluid, filter and adjust the bands every 24K and its been great.
