This guy is asking $22k for the truck, which seemed alright before I found out about the damage. 98-00 Duallies inthe 3 western provinces are going for $18-27k, and most are 24v, and all have 200k+ km on them. So the price he was asking for a good truck isn't out of line.
The soaking of the truck was back in 02 and 04, so its had some time to dry out. Hopefully any issues that would arise have come already. Two days ago I was quite pumped about this truck, now not so much. Atleast I have a good bargaining chip if I do decide to go ahead. Definitely a lot more cautious on this truck now.
There may be lots of 98 12v's south of the border, but up here, they are far and few between. Bringing one up would be cheaper in the end, but thats a lot of hassle. I may start cruising some auctions. I don't want to just jump into a truck again. I did that with my current truck, and if I had held out 2 more months, there was a lot of trucks for sale. Live and learn, I guess.

I guess there's a differance in currancy up there - but down in the US I would not give more than a Kelly Blue Book "trade in" value for something that's had that kind of history. It would work out perhaps for around $11k USD. Good luck with this - I would also encourage you to take your time.

22k is way too high for a water damaged truck! even factoring extra costs of importing into canada.

I would definately avoid it. I've been looking for a truck for almost a year and a half. I test drove probably about 25 of them and turned all of them down. then i found the right one and i cant be any happier. dont jump on it too quick, another one will definately come along!

On a side note, wheres good region for picking a truck up out of the states? I figured the SW, like Texas and Arizona, Nevada, would be fairly clean trucks. And they do seem to be cheaper.

there's a thread recently about this very same topic.
not in rust belt. Texas seems to be the best choice. but transportation to canada will be a killer. best to fly down and drive back.

$22k Cad is like $19.5k USD..... there's no way i'd pay that for a water damaged vehicle..... let alone one that has been damaged twice..... i payed $11,500 for my 96 back in 2003 (from the local Dodge dealer) and it had 87K miles on it with a clean Carfax......

Water damage devalues any vehicle. This one is over priced. I suggest asking a bank what they'd be willing to loan on a non-damaged similar truck. Use that as an approximation for non-damaged wholesale value. This truck should be priced less than that. I paid $10.5 USD for the 01 in my sig.

Blue book from the bank on a good truck is $20k.
The guy selling the truck hasn't contacted me in a while, as he was supposed to come down here for me to see it. Doesn't seem too interested in selling it, I guess.
