I Need info on one-is there a part # from dodge? Napa asked a 1000 questions, say mine is in the pcm and external wont work( no duh!, and yes it will) and they say to many amps will go through it and fry it-auto zone was a waste of time too. If (as I susspect) any one will work-when I get asked "what year truck" should I tell them an early year dodge(88-89) as they had the external ones right?

Try older like early 80"s cars and trucks both had them, To my knowledge the regulator controls the amount of amps the alternator puts out, dependant on electrical load, AMP draw does not go thru it.

Tell them you want a regulator for a '78 Ford F150.
They will ask only if you want a mechanical or solid state one, get the solid state.
Most times you have to deal with autoparts counter guys this way or they're lost.

LOL, You gotta mess with their head a bit, whenever I get into that situation, I tell them it is for a 1 of 2 ZL-1 427 BBC Corvette.
I can usually keep them scratching their heads for an hour or so before I tell them I might be able to modify the same part for the L-72 427.
You Mopar guys could do the same only use a cross ram 426 as your vehicle.
