transfer pump or fuel tank pump or ????

Thanks to all. I worked on my fuel/heater and replaced the gaskets, hose, filter and yanked the heating element (I live where it is warm for most of the year). Works great, no blue smoke at all. A couple of comments about the installation (I am 5'7" with average length arms):
I could not reach the fuel transfer pump bolts from the side of the truck
I accessed the bolts from the top and the the bottom.
My biggest challenge at re-installation was lining up the fuel lines that go into the fuel heater and the transfer pump...I had to undue the one going into the transfer pump at the banjo fitting above.
Lots of work, but well worth the reward of seeing my old blue not blow blue anymore....once again a big thanks.

A little late in a reply...all worked out. Only replaced the filter in the prefilter and the little hose that goes between the prefilter and the transfer pump. Still have blue smoke at start-up, but no more fuel problems.

You have an 18 year old truck with 18 year old rubber lines. You might want to replace them all now in your driveway before you have to do it in the rain on the side of the road. Just sayin'.....................

How many miles on your truck? Blue smoke at start up may just be a little oil getting past the sealing points after shutdown and burning off at startup.
If it clears up right away you are probably ok for another 100K..
Mine still shoots a puff of black smoke out at start up...
