Track bar will not come off
#16
I got the track bar out finally! Holy cow was that a job. I'm trying to install the luke links and the bottom of my bar is not flat like the one in his pictures. His is flat and you grind away the bottom to see the seem. This bar must be a replacement bar because its rounded and you can see the seam right away (see pic). Can I use the luke links on this bar?

I give up anyone want to buy a brandnew Luke Links kit? I'm going to autozone and just buying a new bar with a lifetime warranty. Without buying an additional $300 in tools theres noway to get the luke link kit on. I don't know why he doesn't have a exchange program??? Seems brilliant to me.. oh well

Unfortunately I can't answer your question about the luke's link since I have never used them.
I would strongly suggest going a different route than a lifetime bar from autozone. If your current bar is still driveable, I would put it back on for a week or two and either get a bar from Don Thuren or go with the 3rd gen conversion. I know it is frustrating now but you will be kicking yourself in a year or two if you go with a stock style bar which is just going to fail again.
Good luck with whatever you do.

The DPO (dreaded Previous Owner) put the track bar on my truck with the biggest impact he could find. I got the nut off with a big breaker bar, but I couldn't get the joint to separarate. I broke my pickle fork trying to free it. I had to heat it with a torch and beat on it with an air hammer for 1/2 hour before it finally came loose. It was way too tight.

All you need for the LL install is a 4 inch angle grinder!
If you get a "lifetime" bar from the auto parts store, expect to become good at changing them, because you will.
Last time I had mine out I jacked the front up a little to release tension (yes, it worked), took the nut off, reversed it so it was castle side down, and used a long 2x4 with a bfh. Took a few, but it worked!

I have to add I do take right side bolt off first, so bar is not "under tension", then steer left or right a couple of times to have it loose, then pound on the bracket eye. I can replace one in 20 minutes now, mainly because I bought them with unlimited warranty, and I kept replacing them until I went 3rd gen type. No more worries ....
Of course, I discovered this technique AFTER I mangled mine with the pickle fork and sledge route.
I found a better use for the hammer hitting the BJ eye. Don't touch the pcikle fork or the castle nut-- you won't need to. Just take the nut off and whack the frame.
Work smarter, not harder.

Autozone was 129.99 lifetime warranty. Definitely need a person in the car to steer the car to the right as you install it. Made life much easier. I'm pleased to inform that at 65mph on the highway I get no death wobble even over the biggest pot holes. Life is good!

Eh-hemm...I just got refunded for my 3rd Autozone trackbar. I did same as you, kept getting a new one every 3,000 miles, then got tired of replacing it, bite the bullet and got a 3rd gen conversion.
They gave me back all my money, which helped with the conversion.
