Solid Steel Track Bar Conversion Kit

Just a note to let you know, the TBK (track bar conversion kit) from Solid Steel Industries LTD works on trucks with up to 4 inches of lift, and the track bar does not hit the factory diff cover or a Mag-Hytec diff cover.

Also note Solid Steel Industries LTD. new website address:

How?
The TBK and the trac bar relocation bracket sold with the lift kit mount in the same place.
2 objects can not occupy the same space at the same time, basic law of physics.

Perhaps the relocation bracket is only used in lifts greater than 4 inches?
Mine being a 4.5" does have a skyjacker tracbar relocation bracket.

Actually, Phox, if you get into quantum theory, there is an ever so slight chance, probably once in a gazillion years, that if you keep trying it, one object (the drop bracket supplied with the lift) will pass right throughthe other object (the 03 conversion kit) Same goes for walking through a wall... If you do it enough, there is a chance you will walk through it

I struggled with these track bars on many occasions.
My only suggestion is toss the Moog in the trash, Pull the OEM one from the dumpster and order a LUKES LINK.

I had 2 problems, 1. Trak bar had gone so bad it ovaled out the bolted connection on the pass. side.
Had to have thicker plates welded on with reinforced mounting holes.
Then i put on the LUKES LINK, and viola, I dont remember my front end being this tight when I bought it.

Only downside is, LUKES LINK DOES NOT WORK ON MOOG. wish i knew that prior to buying, installing, and scrapping yet another moog bar.

Get the LINK, will be your last repair

Yes, phox_mulder, that is correct - for skyjacker and other lifts that include track bar relocation hardware.
However, there are many ways to lift a truck that does not require track bar relocation, or does not supply track bar relocation hardware or bracketry.
The TBK in question will work with a truck that is lifted up to 4 inches. My comment was only referring to height of lift, and not method of lift.
Sorry for the confusion, I should have specified.

No confusion, just didn't want to get peoples hopes up.

When I ordered my DSS, I asked Rip about lifted trucks and he seemed to imply that they were working on a way to put the 3rd gen tracbars on trucks such as mine.

I know it can be fabbed up, but I as well as others are looking for a simple bolt on, and $$$ is always a factor.

smokefrom4, in my case the bushing on the axle is where the play was at. The ball joint was okay. I agree, the Lukes Link is a good fix if the ball joint is at fault.

The second Moog track bar was better then the first. This one has no horizontal movement. There is a slight verticle movement. Anything under 80 thousanth is acceptable. Seems a little much to me. But what do I know.

Thanks for the replys.

Dr. Evil,

This from the FAQ section of the DSS site:

How about my snowplow or tow hooks ?

So far, there haven't been any problems with front receiver hitches or tow hooks. Engine pre-lubers or bypass filters mounted on the front crossmember may need relocating. Some snowplow brackets may require modification of the plow brackets and/or stabilizer.

banks twinram, I did not have death wobble, just loose steering which I did not think was all that bad. The track bar is used on the 4X4 Rams to keep the front axle in place under the frame side to side. It is attached to the left frame rail ahead of the front axle and is attached to the front axle near the right wheel.

The joint at the frame is ball and socket and in most situations is what wears out first. Where the TB attaches at the axle is a bolt through a metal bushing cushioned by rubber. This is where my truck would not pass on first inspection. This is one of the items that can cause sloppy steering.

Any horizontal movement in any of the joints is not allowed to pass inspection. In the ball joints up to 80 thousandth of verticle movement is acceptable.

Do a search on track bar and you will find a lot of information on this topic.

Hope this helps.

ok thanks a lot stan. i will look and see to further my knowledge. i don't think that it applies to me too bad because down here in texas, just about anything that will drive down the road and 20 bucks layin in the seat will get you an insection sticker real quick. lol, plus mines not a 4x4. i looked at my front end and found that the draglink is made like a 1/2 ton chevy back in the 80's. i know quite a bit about them so i think i can figure it out. thanks for the info, i was kinds startin to worry bout my ol dodge.

I read this whole thread and would like a little advice...I have installed the SS steering bracket and it worked like a charm!....I installed the Luke's link on the stock track bar and they worked like a charm!

Is there a benefit to using the SS '03 track bar conversion also?

I would like to but an oversized cover on my front differential.

Hello everybody. Great board here.
I have the SS brace, an dlove it. It made more of a difference in handling than anything else. Dealer replaced track bar at 105K.
I run a Blizzard 860 snow plow, and everything gets along well.
