too much rust?
I have been looking around at used 12 valve ctd's and not too many show up. I found a 95 on my way home from college tonight with at, 4x4, 140000. The paint is really nice, a little rust in the door frame that was touched up, but underneath, I was a little surprised.
You can see where a five year old spot shot some black paint in a few places, it makes it look a thousands times better-not haha.
Does this look too rusty? It is a pa truck, but this looks a little bad to me. They are asking 8500, personally, I wouldn't bother unless they come down to $7K but still, would anyone still buy it?
A weekend, plenty of wire wheels, a gallon of por-15, and a six pack would be needed, but is it a little too late to bother with?
Also, one other quick q: those blocks under the rear leaves, is that the stock configuration?
Thanks for the continued help you all provide!

Put it on a lift then decide. I'd be more worried about rust in the body panels than surface rust on the frame that you can reach & POR. What about other weak places ie suspension & steering. You won't have the VP but there are 12v issues to be dealt with. Read the 12v forums & check those problem areas before deciding.

Blue book for it is 7400 suggested retail value. I'm going to test drive it on my way back to school Thursday and talk a little price. Btw, are those blocks under the springs stock? it looks really weird to me...
Also, is there a way to tell if the pump has been played with?

Those are the same blocks that came on my 01 stock so they are either stock or from a newer truck. the underside of the truck looks good to me. its all just surface rust that can be dealt with the por-15 and beer. check the bottoms of the doors for repairs as well as the dog leg on the frt fender. and over the wheel arches. good luck to you.

I've been under my 96 for the last two nights doing some work and it looks about the same as that but with only 96,000 on it. Pulling the bed then wire brushing and coating the chassis is on the menu for this spring. I want to get the rust before the rust gets me. I think the worst thing is letting it sit like I do with mine. I'm going to make it a point to drive it at least once or twice a week from now on.

As 'atc250' suggested, pulling the bed is the easiest way to attack the rust. It's sufficiently a nasty enough job without banging your head. The bed comes off quite easily with the help of a few buddies.
Good luck!

So I looked at the truck in daylight this morning. Most of the surface rust doesn't look that bad. However, there are three points on the frame where a hole has appeared: one at the front, one mid way along the bed, and another towards the rear end. I popped the hood and the engine bay is pretty clean, she turned right over with no smoke.
The brake lines in the rear also will need to be replaced-they look pretty badly rusted.
The three holes in the frame bother me cause no matter how much por15 and grinding I use, I will never be able to catch all of the rust.

I have a 78 Datsun Z with rust in the frame rails. A friend of mine is an old school body man. He sprayed metal prep, then rinsed then the POR into the frame rails. Still going 5 yrs later.
