Terrible sounding noise

Some history on the ole gal: New shocks, ball joints (4), axle u-joints (just because he was already doing the ball joints), and golden road (I think I did more but I can't remember right now) all within the last 40K miles. Now, when I turn hard left (slowly) I can hear and feel a popping/grinding. It's almost like a CV joint sounds/feels when it's bad. I checked the u-joints and they all seem tight so what else could it be? I know there are many possiblilities but from I can tell (and I'm no mechanic), everything seems to be tight. Could it possibly be a bearing? I jacked up the front end and there didn't seem to be any play in the wheels. I'm about ready to drive it off in the pond and collect the ins. money so please help me figure this out before I do something stuuuuupid.

Not really. I did notice that the pass. side wouldn't turn and I had the 4x4 selector and the gear shift both in neutral. It sounded like the driveline was keeping it from turning...it wasn't the brakes because I could hear the gears/driveshafts clunking.
