Tailgate Cables
Are many of you guys having to replace your tailgate cables? Both of mine have snapped. Went to the wreckers and he had new ones to sell for $20 bucks each.

You can get new ones from autozone for about 12 to 15 bucks each. They rust out because the ends of the cables are "open". Meaning, the eyelets are crimped on. They also point straight up when the the tailgate is closed, so rain and moisture go straight into the end of the cable, and "puddle" inside the rubber coated cable at the "bottom" or the bend in the cable.
A simple fix is to put a dab of sealant on the ends of the new cable to prevent the moisture from getting in. While it's not a perfect fix, it will help allot.
Unless tou can find some stainless steel ones ($$), or fab up the old fashioned metal flat stock style, the new cables are the only way to go. Kevin

Well, I got mine at autozone, but they had 6 of them there. 2 were 7 bucks each, and 4 were 12 bucks each. same thing, but different part numbers. I bought the cheaper ones of course, even tho the more expensive ones are what the book said I needed. they work great.
