switches and lights?
I need some ideas on how some of you guys might be mounting toggle switches and indicator lights. I've been racking my brain trying to figure out a good, neat way of mounting 5 or 6 switches, and a couple indicator lights, while still looking decent and being easy to get to.

I've got two toggles and an illuminated rocker switch mounted on the panel below the steering wheel. They're difficult to operate while driving, and I can't see the rocker because of the angle and must go by feel.

There are heavy duty emergency vehicle switch boxes available that would mount similar to a CB radio. Gall's Inc.,http://www.galls.com has several models that range in price from $50 - $100. Another source is Transportation Safety Devices (TSD) out of Indiana. But being public safety suppliers, may be difficult to purchase.

Wrecker supply stores or auto parts stores may even carry something similar.

You might take a look at the small project boxes available at electronic supply stores such as radioshack - I've used these before, and mounted them to the dash (bottom panel) using double-sided tape / velcro / etc. - that way you don't have to drill any holes in your dash, and the whole assembly is movable (you don't have to commit to a location) - just drill holes in the project enclosure, mount your switches / lights, and make a wire-harness.. you can even get a strain-relief for hole where the wires go into the box...

next, go the the junkyard, and get yourself a fuse-block from a car or truck (should be about $10 with fuses) - use this to individually fuse your accessories, etc...

FUN!

I friend that uses his Dodge chassie cab for plowing snow and spreding salt has his switches mounted in the ash tray. To use them he just flips the tray down and there they are. I think he has 4 switches and 4 indicator lights mounted to a black peace of plastic that he screwed to the ash tray.

DB

Re:switches and lights?
I have used the same switches that AggieJustin has. I've installed them on the center panel below the ash tray. just past where it curves under. Above the transfer case. I will try to post a pic later. I figure I can expand out to about 6 in a row then add another row if needed. I currently have 3 now. I had a set of fog/driving combo lights till I bump an embankment turning around. Then the 3rd for the extra back up lights.. need to see in Reverse.
