Stumbling At The Idle

Every once in a while, especially after I have pushed the truck a little more than normal while it is at the idle it sounds like its missing. The Tach and fuel pressure are steady. Other than to hear it you wouldn't even know it was happening, but it's starting to do it more often. Just one of those irritating things that I have ignored so far, but I'm startin to wonder about.

Go to autozone and have the codes pulled. If one of the codes is P0216, then it's time for a new injection pump.

It's not throwing any check engine lights or anything else, will it still throw out codes without showing any warning lights?

Sometimes. I'd have it checked anyways. It's free and what can it hurt. I've got a couple stored in mine and there's no check engine light.

Have you noticed a difference based on fuel level in the tank? You describbed the exact symptoms I had before replacing my pick-up tube. The sending unit has sharp screws inside the cage that can scrape against the pick-up tube and cause it to leak. Once the fuel level drops below the leak, you start sucking air into the fuel line. Even with my FASS, I was still getting air at the IP without effecting the FP or Tach -- pulled the fuel line off the IP to perform a volume test and noticed the air pockets coming through the line.

You did not mention what kind of a miss it is, sparradic or one cylinder. My original injectors had a miss on one cylinder at idle for many thousands of miles, ran great while pulling. It also showed up after pulling hard.

Thanks for the replies, was starting to give up on this one. When it does it, it is a steady rythym like it's on a cylinder. It hasn't affected any pulling power, it gets tested almost daily. I do have an occaisional problem with the vent hole on top of the fuel tank clogging up. I usaully start hearing it whistle after I shut the truck off and then I know it's time to climb under and shove a nail through it. I guess I should make the hole bigger but I'm afraid it'l suck up to much dust. I run this truck through the weeds dust quit a bit. As dry as it is right now I think everwhere I go is a dust hole. Had to wipe the dust off the dash console the other day, I couldn't see the speedometer.

With that I would suspect an injector going south.

what would be the first thing to go south if you put gas in instead of diesel? all the gas was taken out but was still run on it for a few miles. it runs fine but has alot less power. any idea's?

injectors, injector pump? can anything internal go wrong? i know gas is more refined then diesel so could the gas got into places it shouldn't have and popped something?
