stuck rotors?
I am trying to change rotors on my 1998 2500 cummins. However they are stuck, and i cant get them off. I've tried beating on it as much as i dare, and heating it. Any other ideas??
Thanks, Dave

Get some PB blaster and soak the hub and let it sit for a lil while, then a bigger hammer and swing away, side to side or top and bottom should break it loose. Usually works for me, ur gonna break the rotor before anything else, and ur changing it anyways, so i wouldnt worry too much abt smackin it, just dont miss Good Luck

i used a really big gear puller once, but when hitting the puller it broke the rotor so i had to resort to soaking it and beating it to death. how it didnt break other things is beyond me and i told truck i was sorry for doing that to it. i hope someone can give better idea.

And you won't........you need to remove the entire unit bearing assembly. For '99 and older, the rotor is pressed onto the unit bearing with the lug studs, it won't simply slide off, as you have found. After the bearing/rotor assembly is off, you can press the lugs out (if you don't have a press, you can use a hammer and a brass drift to knock them out).

I was in the same boat with my 2007.
All I wanted to do was replace the u-joint and the rotor would not budge.
Ended up pulling the hub with rotor still attached. Loads of fun...
Best part is I made a rookie boo-boo and did not clean ALL of the packing grease from the China made NAPA u joint.
2 types of grease with different viscosity = No grease goes in the caps with the packing grease so it will be time to pull again in the spring.
Who needs to join a gym when all you have to do is work on your own Dodge.

Hey! I figured it out! theres supposed to be a spacer, and apparently whoever changed the rotors last didnt put it back on... that might be a problem.... Thanks for the help!

The spacers were a failed attempt to correct front end pull.
Most people haven't noticed any difference with or without the spacer.
The spacer could be on either the right or left side front but get stuck to the back of the wheel and end up anywhere in a tire rotation.
